What happened to the cheerful Lauren Giddings, who was about to start her career and a new life?
Who was Lauren Giddings and what happened to her as shown in the Dateline episode?

Born on April 18, 1984, Lauren Giddings was a smart and charming recent law graduate of Mercer University. As the eldest of three sisters, she had many big dreams and responsibilities to fulfill. She dreamed of being a public defender. In addition to law, she took an interest in running, visiting the church, and serving as president of the school's Federal Society.
Her classmates remember her as a bubbly woman who liked to wear pink outfits. Her presence was infectious. She lived in a Macon apartment complex, close to her university building, where her next-door neighbor, Stephen McDaniel, lived.
On June 24, 2011, Giddings enjoyed a night out with her friends at a local bar. After the party, she went with her friend Muller to Muller's boyfriend's and Giddings ex Joe's apartment, to spend the night. Giddings left the apartment the next morning to visit a nearby country club. Her card details showed that she visited the country club on June 25, 2011, and later at a fast-food restaurant in the evening.
On June 25, 2011, Giddings texted her boyfriend David expressing concern that someone had tried to break into the apartment. This was her last communication with anyone. When she failed to pick up the calls, her sisters grew alarmed and informed the police. Days later dismembered and bloody torso was discovered in a trash bin near her apartment.
What evidence linked Stephen McDaniel to the murder of Giddings?

During the investigation, Giddings' neighbor Stephen McDaniel became a person of interest. The authorities found a blood-stained hacksaw in the community maintenance room near the apartment.
McDaniel's behavior was also quite suspicious. In a recorded interview with local news, he reacted quite oddly when informed that Giddings's remains had been found. Apart from that a similar-looking hacksaw packaging, duplicate keys to the maintenance room, and Giddings' apartment, unused condoms, and Giddings's lingerie were also found in McDaniel's apartment.
Further evidence was found from McDaniel's laptop which had disturbing content including sadistic p****graphy, murder, and heinous videos. A home video recovered from his device suggested he was peeping into Giddings' apartment on the night of June 24, 2011. The prosecutors believed that he used a long stick to capture the footage of Giddings.
