Dateline: The Silhouette — Who is Lars Itzo and what crime did he commit? Details explored
As per the Dateline episode, Debora Kelly was a successful and independent career woman, who worked as a healthcare executive at National Surgical Healthcare.
In 2012, she met Lars Itzo, a contractor, when she hired him to work on her new home in San Antonio, Texas. With regular meetings while working in Kelly’s home, Itzo became close to her. Kelly admired his love for board games and revamping muscle cars. As per the Dateline episode, she:
“got a kick out of Lars’ laidback ways.”
They got married in 2013 but, merely two years the marriage, Lars Itzo shot his wife Debora Kelly with a shotgun on October 10, 2015. He immediately called 911 and, according to the Dateline episode, Itzo claimed that he thought his wife was still in bed and that he had alerted her saying there might be an intruder inside the house. He shot her in the dark hallway thinking she was the intruder.
It was in the early hours of the morning that Itzo shot his wife Kelly, 48, from around a distance of 3 to 4 feet. He called 911 and when aid arrived, he asked them to revive his wife with CPR and stop the bleeding.
However, according to the officers' testimony, they found no footprints when they reached the scene, and Lars’ hands were clean. This prompted them to believe that he had never tried reviving his wife using the CPR technique.
Since there was no other person in the house, Lars was arrested for killing his wife.
