Dateline: Secrets Uncovered Season 10 Episode 66 titled The Mystery on Albion Road, featured the unfortunate incident of Kristen Grindley. According to the official synopsis of the episode,
“A young woman was found in the middle of the road, nearly dead. With little evidence to go on, investigators hoped to find out what happened from the victim herself. The problem was, she couldn't remember.”
On November 11, 2009, Bob Cady, a bar owner from Washington found Kristen Grindley on the road. She was badly injured and covered in blood. Let us now explore the details of the Kristen Grindley case as was shown on Dateline: Secrets Uncovered.

After finding Kristen in a blood-soaked and severely injured state, Bob immediately called 911 for help. By the time the medical team was there, Kristen seemed to be almost dying, with chances of survival looking thin. Kristen’s parents were also informed about their daughter’s condition, and her father Rick told Dateline,
“I just remember praying like I’ve never prayed before in my life, you know, ‘Hang on, Kristen we’re coming, hang on.’”
The accident smelled of foul play and the immediate suspect was Kristen’s ex-boyfriend Pasma. Since she was riding in his truck, authorities felt that she must have been kicked or pushed out of the truck.
Moreover, even if she had fallen by herself, there was no sign of Pasma anywhere and he clearly abandoned her to die on the road. That alone was a crime deserving punishment. Pasma however, denied these and pleaded not guilty. His attorney gave a statement that said,
“The defense asserts that the only one responsible for Kristen Grindley's injuries is Kristen Grindley; that in an obsessive and intoxicated moment, she climbed into the back of Pasma's pickup and somehow managed to fall out - without his knowledge.”
This mode of defense did not hold in court, and he was sentenced to nine months, the maximum possible jail time for a crime like this.
Kristen was in an abusive relationship with Pasma
While recovering, Kristen gradually started to piece together her memories from the night her accident happened. She mentioned that while she remembered getting into the truck, she had no recollection of jumping or falling out.
Moreover, it was also revealed that Kristen was abused by Pasma as the two were in a live-in relationship. However, during the trial, Pasma’s lawyer presented a note written by Kristen that said that she would reduce her drinking so that things between her and Pasma could be fixed.
Brett Myers, the Whitman County Sheriff, who was apparently confused about the case, mentioned,
“We didn’t know if it’s an attempted murder or if it’s just a bad accident. All we know is that we have an injured female in the middle of the road and we have very little evidence.”
