What Happens to Heather Elvis in Dateline: The Landing?
Even in the early morning of the day of the incident, Sidney and Elvis were in touch. There were suspicions that Elvis might also be pregnant with Sidney's child which led them to remove Elvis once and for all. A surveillance video from a Walmart also shows Sidney Moorer buying a pregnancy test kit.
Around 4 pm Elvis' car was discovered by a patrolling police officer however her body was never found. Elvis was a hostess at a restaurant and Moorer was a maintenance worker who used to take rounds there. Chris Helms one of the prosecutors said that Moorer had another affair earlier that made his wife suspicious of him.
"Tammy Moorer was definitely the more domineering part of that couple," he said. "She told Sidney where to work, when to work, what to do. If I could classify Sidney as anything in that relationship, it would be 'utterly submissive."
Dateline: Who was found guilty of the kidnapping of Heather Elvis?
Tammy, Sidney's wife, was convicted of kidnapping and conspiracy to kidnap Heather. As seen in Dateline Tammy denied her involvement in the crime but later she was sentenced to 30 years in jail, while Sidney was convicted of obstruction of justice. The entire event was a result of jealousy between the couple as Tammy grew increasingly upset with Sidney's repetitive affairs which led her to take radical action like kidnapping someone.
During the court proceedings, it was a complex web of legal battles with Heather's father facing contempt charges which added to the family's anguish. Elvis and Moorer had been dating for 3 months when the incident happened. Brianna Kulzer, Heather Elvis' close friend and roommate, was one of the last people to speak to Heather before her disappearance. She said that she warned her to not meet Moorer when Heather told her that he was talking about leaving his wife.
"Tammy was relentless," Kulzer said. "She would call [Heather] nonstop for hours and hours and hours. She would call off of Sidney's phone. She was sending pictures of her and Sidney performing sexual acts, videos of the two of them together. I guess, kind of, to taunt Heather."
For the past six years, Heather's family has been memorializing her at Peachtree landing on December 18. Terry Elvis, Heather's father, still hopes to turn around one day and find his daughter in front of him.
"I hold out hope that I'll turn around one day at the front door and she'll walk in," Terry Elvis said. "Do I really think that'll happen? Deep down, no, I don't. ... But I'll never give up."
