NBC Dateline Evil was waiting originally aired on September 14, 2018. The episode dealt with the murder of an Afghanistan-returned soldier, Vincent Goslyn, when he was brutally shot on a secluded road in Kentucky.

On February 3, 2012, Vincent and Jessie, his wife, went to Charlie's to celebrate his return from the military. However, things take a wild turn when Jessie frantically dials 911 and reports her husband has been shot on a secluded road in Kentucky. She reports that she is currently escaping the scene as the murderer was on the loose trying to hold Vincent back. Another 911 call followed; this time it was from Walter, who reported someone had been shot and killed near his house and an unusual movement of a white, grayish truck.

What follows is a thorough investigation of the case, which seemed like a robbery-murder, soon turned into a case of a love triangle that led to the gruesome death of Vincent Goslyn.

Let's have a look at what we know about Sgt. Vincent Goslyn's murder.

Born on September 23, 1983, Vincent had a rough childhood when his mother left him when he was just eight months old. He joined the army in February 2003 when he was just 21. Vincent married Jessie and had five children.

After serving eight years in the army as a quartermaster and mechanic, where he was deployed to Korea and Afghanistan, Vincent returned to Kentucky to spend time with his family. But only four days later he was shot and killed on a road in Kentucky. His wife Jessie called 911 and informed them in a panicky voice that her husband had been murdered, and she sped off in the car.

When the investigators arrived at the crime scene, they saw Vincent's body lying in the remote area, and he had been shot nine times in his face. When the investigators ask Jessie about the murderer, she gives vague descriptions (a person with a black eye and had a reddish car) about him. However, Walter, the second witness, states that he saw a white truck that was speeding fast past him.

The next-door neighbors revealed to the investigator that Jessie told them Vincent had been caught in a 20,000 drug debt, leaving him at high risk. Jessie stated that on the night of the murder, one of the drug dealers contacted her and asked her to bring the car down that secluded road in Kentucky.

However, the fake drug story and a vague description of the murder did not sit well with the investigators. Walter's point of view also points out the inconsistencies of Jessie's fake story, such as that of the color and type of the car. As per Walter's description, the detectives tracked down the white truck; it was registered in the name of a former soldier from Fort Campbell, 24-year-old Jared Long.

As soon as the detectives found out that the white truck belonged to Jared Long when they found him and his truck in Colorado. After statements from the neighbors stating they often saw Jared's truck on Jessie's driveway. This also pointed out that Jessie and Jared were in a relationship and were living together.

Even when the investigators turned in on Jessica about her relationship with Jared and her fake story, she kept denying it. With further investigations, it was revealed that Jessie was in a relationship with Jared, and as a military wife, she would get 450,000 dollars if Vincent passed away.

As per reports, Jessie lured her husband to the remote road in Kentucky where Jared Long pretended to be a stranded motorist. When Vincent went to help Jared, he shot him eight times in the face and head frantically.

Jared had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, while Jessie has pleaded guilty to complicity to the murder of Vincent Goslyn. Christian Circuit Court Judge Andrew Self in May 2018 sentenced Jessie Goslyn to 22 and a half years in prison and Jared Long to 30 years in prison for murdering Sgt. Vincent Goslyn.
