Dateline: Deadly Connection, which aired on May 24, 2014, covered the harrowing murder of Kenia Monge, who was s*xually assaulted and later murdered by Travis Forbes, a man she met after getting stranded at night in 2011.

1) Kenia Monge disappeared from a nightclub in Denver
On March 31, 2001, Dateline victim Kenia Monge went to 24K Lounge in lower downtown Denver to party with her friends. But she got separated from her friends, and went on the street, without her cellphone and purse.
As it was quite late at night, she got stranded on the road, until somebody gave her a lift to the nearest gas station. She was unaccounted for since, and her family, particularly her step-father, was worried sick for her. After investigating for months, the Denver police finally found her dead body in September in a shallow grave in a field near Keenesburg, which is 40 miles away from her birthplace in Denver.
2) Travis Forbes was identified as the prime suspect
Weeks after her disappearance, Dateline victim Kenia's stepfather found a text message on her mobile, which led him to Travis Forbes, a small businessman who advertised granola bars and also owned a bakery.
When the police investigated her, they revealed that he was with Kenia on the night of her disappearance. He was driving by when he spotted Kenia alone at night, asking for a lift. He gave her a lift and dropped her at Conoco gas station at 3 am. He later claimed that since she was very drunk, he met with a fellow smoker at the gas station and walked off with him, and he went home.
3) Denver police found discrepancies in Travis' story
While Travis Forbes built a tight narrative of the fateful night, the Denver Police found discrepancies.in his story.
Firstly, Travis Forbes had many altercations with the law and already had a probation for domestic violence. Secondly, the police found that his van reeked of bleach, and he had recently replaced the carpets, suggesting something had happened.
In addition, the police also saw Travis disabling the surveillance at his bakery, which was recorded on another camera. It also showed him putting a cart inside the freezer, when according to him he was out making deliveries all night.
4) Travis Forbes was finally caught after attempting murder on another woman
While the police could not build a case against Travis, they were following him closely. In July 2011, Travis followed Lydia Tillman from a fireworks celebration. He later s*xually assaulted, strangled, and beat her till she became unconscious. While she was passed out in her apartment, he poured bleach over her and set it on fire.
However, Lydia regained consciousness, jumped out of her second-story burning building, and ran into an ambulance. She went into a coma and woke up after five weeks.
5) Travis Forbes finally confessed to Kenia's murder
After Lydia testified against Travis, he finally pleaded guilty to Dateline victim Kenia's murder. He confessed to first s*xually assaulting her when she passed out after drinking. When she regained consciousness, he strangled and beat her to death and dragged her dead body to the freezer in his bakery. After a few days, he buried her in a shallow grave, where the police eventually found her.
He was charged with a life imprisonment without parole. On his hearing, Travis said:
