Nikki Whitehead, a 34-year-old single mother to teenage twin daughters, Jasmiyah Kaneesha, and Tasmiyah Janeesha, had a troubled childhood. After she got pregnant at 17 and her boyfriend left her, she single-handedly gave birth to her twin daughters and worked in a nearby salon.

As reported by her neighbors, the Dateline victim didn't have a healthy relationship with her daughters and had also lost two custody battles for them against their grandmother. She finally won custody for good and was living with her daughters in the Bridle Ridge Walk subdivision, Georgia.

On January 13, 2010, when her twin daughters returned from school, they saw their mother dead in the bathtub, covered with blood. Lieutenant Chris Moon described it as the most brutal crime scene. He said:

"As soon as you opened the door, you could smell the blood, the copper iron smell in the air."

Nikki's body had multiple stab wounds on her front and back, defensive wounds on her forearm, and bite marks on her arms were also revealed through her autopsy.

After an initial investigation, the police had no leads but as they questioned the victim's daughters, they were forced to investigate the daughters for their mother's murder.

While the twins remained on their stories, the police took a different approach and questioned them separately, eventually uncovering holes in their made-up narratives.

They were also suspicious about the gloves, that the twins were wearing, even inside their houses. When removed, the police found marks on both of their hands. While Tas claimed they were self-inflicted because of her anxiety, Jas claimed she got them during a fight with her sister.

After repeated questioning, the twins finally confessed to their mother's murder after an intense argument, on the morning of January 13, 2010. After their mother threatened to beat them with a teapot, the twins retaliated and stabbed her with a knife, after which Jas strangled the Dateline victim with a ribbon medallion.

The daughters then dragged their mother's body to the bathtub, where they tried to make it into a crime scene. After their confession, they were charged with voluntary manslaughter and making false statements.

Both the twins were sentenced to 30 years in prison each, with Tas now serving a sentence in Arrendale State Prison and Jas in Pulaski State Prison. Tas and Jas will be eligible for parole in March 2026 and September 2027 respectively.
