Dark Winds Season 3 marks the latest installment of the hit AMC psychological thriller series. The show is based on Tony Hillerman’s novel series Leaphorn & Chee and revolves around three officers of the Navajo Tribal Police.

In every season, the trio of Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito, comes across an intriguing case they must solve before the time runs out. The previous season came out in 2023, and ever since, fans have been awaiting updates on the next installment of the show.

The release date of Dark Winds Season 3

Dark Winds Season 3 will premiere on AMC on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Contrary to the previous installments which featured six episodes, the new season will comprise eight episodes. New episodes will be released weekly until April 27, 2025. The episodes will also be available to stream on AMC+.

The storyline of Dark Winds Season 3

The new season will pick up six months after the events of the previous season’s finale, where Joe Leaphorn finally got justice against BJ Vines, the man who had killed his son. Joe will now once again team up with Jim Chee as they take up the case of two boys, who have gone missing.

Meanwhile, a bicycle has been found in the town and there are blood spots on the ground. At the same time, Bernadette Manuelito has her own struggles going on in the Border Patrol, as she encounters a human and drug smuggling case.

In an interview, Zahn McClarnon, who plays Joe Leaphorn, revealed the upcoming season would continue to focus on Joe’s family tragedy, and his actions will impact his married life with Emma. He told TVInsider:

“Joe dealt with dark uses in the first two season, but this year is a continued exploration of the ramifications of the Leaphorn family’s tragedy.”

“There are consequences for Joe’s actions last season that affect his mental state and his marriage to Emma. He’s struggling with guilt as he questions his moral compass on some of his choices. There’s a lot of fear and anxiety this season.”

The star cast of Dark Winds Season 3

Zahn McClarnon returns as Joe Leaphorn, along with Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, and Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito. A. Martinez, who played Sheriff Gordo Sena in season 2, will also be reprising his role.

There are some new additions to the cast as well. The Resident actor Bruce Greenwood has joined the show as Tom Spenser, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse actor Alex Meraz will play Ivan Muños, a border patrol agent.

Jenna Elfman will star as Sylvia Washington, an FBI Special Agent; and Tonantzin Carmelo will portray Eleanda Garza, another border patrol agent. The full cast list of Dark Winds Season 3 is as follows:
