But the Season 3 finale saw Leaphorn and Chee conclude that Dr. Reynolds had killed Ernesto Cata and they were aware that George's life was in danger. Leaphorn, Chee and Gordo Sena reached the Reno train station, where they assumed George ran to avoid Reynolds and reach his mother.

They board the train looking for a scared George, with Reynolds also catching up. While Leaphorn managed to save George, Reynolds pointed a gun at them. Leaphorn tried to persuade Reynolds to hand him over to the authorities, and it looked like Reynolds was ready to give his life up because he had nothing left.

While Bernadette was questioning herself throughout Season 3, she emerged as a good cop who managed to bust Tom Spenser's drug ring and kill Budge. Things had not looked good for her as she was captured by Budge, who wanted to bury her alive.

However, at the last moment, she saw the metal feather in her car gifted by Leaphorn, and she used it to stab and kill Budge. Ivan Muños had a change of heart and helped her bust Tom's drug and the human trafficking ring, and arrest Ed and Eleanda.

However, in the Season 3 finale, Washington walks away after clearing Leaphorn from Vines' case as she could not find any physical evidence against him.

While she was certain that Leaphorn had murdered Vines and had a strong motive for it, his phony alibi was supported by his wife Emma, which is why Washington was not able to prove him guilty.

However, she left Leaphorn with a tape recording of Emma's interview, which stated that she might forgive her husband one day, suggesting that the two might be able to work on their marriage in Season 4.
