Joel Edgerton, the lead actor in the popular Apple TV+ sci-fi series Dark Matter, gave fans something to look forward to by sharing some details about the upcoming Season 2 during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival. While there, he was talking about his latest flick, Train Dreams.

Joel mentioned that they're about to start rolling the cameras for the second season, and even though he was a bit nervous about moving past Blake Crouch's original book, he's stoked about the endless storylines the multiverse opens up.

He said:

“It’s a great new world. The challenge is focusing on the most exciting choices, and Blake is brilliant at that.”

The first season of Dark Matter was a crowd-pleaser, covering everything in Crouch's novel and leaving us with more questions than answers. Despite finishing the book's story, the show has been picked up for a second season. Jason Dessen and his family find a new, mysterious door to walk through.

Edgerton had a little joke about it:

“I just feel sorry for everyone having to watch multiple versions of me again.”

Here's a sneak peek at what's coming up on Dark Matter.

Edgerton's recent announcement that filming for the show is about to start "really soon" has got everyone buzzing about when we might actually see it on our screens again. Looking at how these things usually go, it seems like we could be waiting until the end of 2025 or maybe the start of 2026 for the next season to come out.

That's because making a show like Dark Matter is a big task, especially when dealing with sci-fi goodness and alternate realities. The thing with this show is that it's not just any old TV series. It's got a multiverse angle, which means the team behind it has to plan everything out carefully and use special effects.

If you remember, the first season had some amazing visuals, with each universe looking like it was pulled straight out of a different storybook. It is going to be quite a challenge to keep that level going while they cook up new tales for us to get lost in. But don't worry; Edgerton and Crouch are dedicated to keeping the story just as epic as before.

Apple TV+ is going all-in on original content that's a bit out there, and Dark Matter is right up their alley. They've put a lot of faith and cash into shows like this one. If season 2 does well, it could end up being one of the main shows that everyone thinks of when they hear the words "Apple TV+".

So, fingers crossed, it does the job and keeps us all glued to our screens!

What to expect in Dark Matter Season 2?

Dark Matter Season 1 left us all guessing what's going to happen next with Jason and his family. They're just hopping through the multiverse! For Season 2, the sky's the limit, really. We're all expecting them to keep traveling through those wacky worlds and giving us new spins on the issues we all deal with, like the choices we make and the regrets that come with them.

Joel Edgerton, the guy who plays Jason, dropped a little hint that we'll see more of these "multiple Jasons." That's the bread and butter of the show looking at who we are and what we do. It's deep but fun as a potential storyline.

Edgerton was kidding when he said:

“They could be playing some seriously great pranks on the neighborhood.”

Some of the most-loved characters, like Daniela, played by Jennifer Connelly, Charlie, portrayed by Oakes Fegley, and Alice Braga as Amanda, are expected to have important parts in solving the puzzles of Dark Matter Season 2.

The mysterious montage at the end of Dark Matter Season 1, where we see Ryan (Jimmi Simpson) working hard on his potion and Amanda meeting a "new friend," gives us some hints about what's going to happen to them.

With Blake Crouch still on board, the show's deep thinking will keep going strong. They'll explore feelings like regret, wishing for the past, and being grateful, which means we're in for a ride that'll tug at our heartstrings.

If you haven't watched Dark Matter Season 1 yet, it's streaming on Apple TV+, while Season 2 shapes up to explore the multiverse further.
