Daredevil: Born Again brings us the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen back in action. The recent episodes have given us everything we’ve been waiting for. Matt Murdock donning the suit once more and fighting crime. And to top it off, we also got a brilliant reunion scene with none other than Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka The Punisher.

But the original Daredevil series on Netflix has a very special place in our hearts despite all that Born Again gives us. And fans have started noticing subtle callbacks to the original series.

And of course that has led many of us right back to binge-watching the old episodes of Netflix's Daredevil. Because some scenes from that series are just too iconic to ever forget.

And speaking of iconic scenes, there’s one emotional moment between Daredevil and the Punisher that we can never forget. It is the graveyard scene in Season 2, Episode 4. Fans probably were blown away by how emotional Daredevil was as he listened to The Punisher. However, Cox revealed that those were not tears; it was just sweat.

But Daredevil actor Charlie Cox revealed the truth behind that unforgettable moment, and it’s definitely not what anyone anticipated. So what really happened behind the scenes? Let’s get right into it.

Daredevil: The Punisher-Daredevil moments

Some of the best scenes in Daredevil have always been the ones between Matt Murdock and Frank Castle. Their dynamic is intense and powerful.

They could be throwing fists on rooftops or exchanging ideologies about justice. These two characters have given us some of the most unforgettable moments on TV.

And now Daredevil: Born Again brings them back together again. We get to witness a deeply thought-out reunion. There’s less of the physical confrontation and more of the emotional weight they both carry. Their approach to justice used to set them apart. And it still exists, but there's also a new layer of understanding.

The Punisher has always been about vengeance. He is brutal and swift. He believes people who do wrong need to be taken down with no second chances. No courts. No prisons.

But Daredevil still believes in the system. In giving people a chance at justice through the law. He wants to believe that things can work even when everything’s broken.

But in Daredevil: Born Again we see something different. Frank Castle is the one who ends up holding up the mirror to Matt. It used to be the latter earlier. For once, Punisher sees what Matt can’t. He sees guilt over the death of a friend Matt still hasn't come to terms with.

That’s the thing about these two. It’s never just punches and blood when they come together. It’s truth, pain, perspective, and sometimes healing. So yes, every Daredevil-Punisher reunion gives us something real and raw.

But once something pretty funny went down behind the scenes of one of their scenes. Read on to know more.

Daredevil Season 2 Episode 4: Tears or no tears?

Back in Netflix's Daredevil Season 2 Episode 4, we got one of the best moments between Frank Castle and Matt Murdock in a graveyard.

It turns out that moment stuck with the production team. Charlie Cox revealed in an interview with GQ that during the editing of the episode, one of the producers came up to him and told him that the scene was amazing.

Charlie had no idea what he was actually about. He shared in the GQ interview:

"First of all, I have to start by just saying Jon's performance in this scene is brilliant, but the story here is when the scene had been edited, and the episodes were coming in, one of the producers came up to me and said 'Oh my God, that scene with you and Jon in the cemetery is so good.' And I'm like, 'Oh cool,' because it's all Jon. I'm like 'Great, good for him.' I'm just listening. And they're like, 'In the bit when he's telling you the story, and you're crying.' And I was like, 'Huh, I don't remember crying in that scene'."

The actor continued,

"I feel like I would remember that. Anyway, when I went back and watched it, I remembered that before we get into that position, I'm carrying Jon Bernthal up a hill over and over again, so I'd be putting him down, and all I'd be thinking is 'Try not to breathe too heavily during his dialogue.'"

Cox explained the "tears," saying that it was actually just the sweat he had worked up. He explained,

"So I am sweating profusely under this helmet, and evidently, some of the sweat has kind of obviously trickled down the mask, and then is coming out from here. And it looks like I'm shedding tears. And when I told that to Jon, he's like, 'That's what that was? I remembered I was thinking, 'man, this guy's crying in my scene.'"

So all those deep and glistening “emotions” running down his cheeks were actually nature’s doing. Not acting. Charlie laughed about it as he shared it. Perhaps sometimes the best performances come with a little help from the elements, even if unintentionally.
