Disclaimer: Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 3 spoilers ahead!

In Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 3, the legal battle involving Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes) takes center stage. Hector finds himself in a tough spot, accused of a crime he didn't commit - the murder of a police officer.

The show looks into the story of what really happened between Hector and some undercover cops. It turns out Hector was only trying to keep a civilian safe, but the bad guys twisted the story to make him look guilty.

The trial shows how messed up things are with the cops and the law. A bunch of corrupt officers, like Powell (Hamish Allan-Headley), are making Hector's life difficult, to say the least. They're using the Punisher's symbol to hide their dirty deeds.

This all leads to a look at vigilantes in the city and how they're affecting the police department. The lines between right and wrong are blurred, and everyone on Daredevil: Born Again is trying to figure out what's fair game to keep people safe.

Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 3, takes us back to the moments before Hector Ayala's arrest. Hector was at the subway platform when he saw a man, Nicky Torres (also known as Nick Jordan), being attacked by some people.

These attackers were actually undercover cops, but Hector didn't know that. He tried to help the man being attacked, but things got out of hand.

Subsequently, one of the cops ended up falling onto the train tracks and died by accident. The other officer, Powell, took advantage of the situation. He lied about what happened and said that Hector started the fight without any reason. He totally ignored the fact that Nicky was the real victim here.

This episode shows that this wasn't just a one-time thing. There's a big problem with the police in New York City. They're not always honest and sometimes take the law into their own hands.

Powell's involvement in the investigation and the court case shows how the idea of vigilante justice, like the Punisher, has gotten into the police force. This makes it hard to tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys because their actions are equally concerning.

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3 - The Punisher’s symbol is that of corruption within the NYPD

Episode 3 is unsettling as several corrupt cops use the Punisher’s skull symbol. This is important because it shows that taking the law into one's own hands is popular among some police officers. The Punisher is a character who decides who should be punished, and these officers think they can do the same.

Powell, one of the main characters, has a skull tattoo on him, and we find out that other police officers have it, too. This symbol is actually from Punisher #13 of the comic books. This highlights that something is wrong with the justice system.

The writer of the comics, Gerry Conway, says the Punisher isn’t a hero. He’s a sign that society isn’t working right. So, when police officers start acting like the Punisher, it’s really worrying. In an interview with Uproxx he said,

“To me, it’s disturbing whenever I see authority figures embracing Punisher iconography because the Punisher represents a failure of the Justice system.

The story doesn’t just talk about how dangerous it is to have this kind of thinking in the police. It also warns us about what happens when people start using violence to solve problems without following the law.

This part of Daredevil: Born Again makes us think about how important it is to keep the law strong and not let anyone, even police officers, take justice into their own hands. It’s a serious message wrapped up in an exciting plot twist.
