Daredevil: Born Again is almost at the finish line with just one episode left. And till now we've seen Wilson Fisk claw his way up to the top. This time he becomes the mayor of New York City. We also see Daredevil finally suiting up after the death of Foggy.
There’s an anti-vigilante task force now ready to wipe out every masked hero. The task force consists of corrupt cops who resort to extreme measures. They have no restrictions and report directly to Fisk which makes it even more dangerous.
But there’s something or someone much more chilling playing out in the background. We’re talking about Vanessa Fisk. She might not have the strength or public power of Wilson. But her presence as a silent and strangely strategic woman is surely felt.
She was the one who kept the empire running when Fisk was away. She seemed to have stepped aside when he returned. But has she really?
Let’s get into why Vanessa might just be the real mastermind of Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil: Born Again - Vanessa Fisk
In Daredevil: Born Again Episode 8, we see Matt Murdock piece together something huge. Bullseye wasn’t acting on his own when he killed Foggy. Someone hired him. And naturally Matt assumes it’s Wilson Fisk. But he realizes the truth during the grand ball hosted by Fisk and Vanessa.
It was Vanessa. She’s the one who ordered the hit on his best friend.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise to Daredevil fans who have watched Netflix's Daredevil. She’s always been more than just the Kingpin’s elegant and soft-spoken wife.
She has shown from the beginning that blood doesn't throw her off and she isn't afraid of it. She is also quite okay with what Fisk does. When he first tells her about it, she does not get scared and run away from him. Instead she wants a part in it.
She’s calm and collected. She is also pretty smart. In Daredevil: Born Again we see her as she finds out Fisk lied to her about Adam. She has a slightly shocked expression at first. But it seemed like she wasn't horrified by it. She doesn't even try to argue with Fisk. Instead, she finishes the job herself with a bullet to Adam's head.
Daredevil: Born Again - The rise of the Queenpin
Vanessa Fisk is fully aware of who she is and what she’s capable of. She doesn’t ask for permission. She doesn’t seek validation. She acts. She sends Buck to Luca to resolve the gang fight when nobody steps up and Fisk is busy with his mayoral duties.
She loves control and power. But she knows she can’t overpower Fisk physically or emotionally. So she works from the shadows. No one can see her coming. She has layers and she protects them well.
She is also pretty aware of Fisk's flaws - his temper and unpredictability. But she works around them. She doesn’t lash out. She strategizes and then strikes.
Episode 9 tells us it was Vanessa and not Fisk who ordered the hit on Foggy. Fisk didn’t even know. We know this because she tells him during the ball that she hasn't told him something. And even though she doesn't get to saying it, we know what she wants to tell Fisk.
Her red dress at the ball might be more than just fashion. It could stand for power or danger. It could imply that she is in charge rather than Fisk.
So, in Daredevil: Born Again she might be the one pulling the strings. And Fisk's empire might see the rise of a Queenpin.
