Daredevil: Born Again gears up for the eighth and penultimate episode, which is expected to stream on April 8, 2025, on Disney+. Two days after the seventh episode, "Art for Art's Sake," streamed, actor Vincent D'Onofrio sat down for an interview with Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast. In that podcast, Horowitz and D'Onofrio touched upon a wide range of topics.

One such topic that the Wilson Fisk actor touched on was the creative overhaul of Daredevil: Born Again. Vincent D'Onofrio spoke glowingly of Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, who agreed with both him and Charlie Cox, who liked the idea but felt that the show makers didn't course correct a bit.

Vincent D'Onofrio, in his Happy Sad Confused podcast appearance, addressed the original script for Daredevil: Born Again. While D'Onofrio was appreciative of the Born Again writers' original idea, the actor said that both he and fellow Daredevil cast member Charlie Cox were feeling that something was amiss about the original Daredevil: Born Again.

The actor's answer begins at the 17:11 minute mark. Here's what Vincent D'Onofrio said:

"Between Charlie and I, yes, it was a collective idea. You know, I have to say that the initial writers, they had a great idea. The idea was a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't think it would have had a chance, because we were disconnecting from the original show. Charlie and I couldn't understand how we were supposed to portray these characters that everybody loves within the environment that they were putting us in. And why they loved them, who they love, why they love them, what makes them love these characters, or hate them. So we kept on bumping against that the whole time. Luckily enough, we have a boss named Kevin Feige. He listens to everything, and he watches everything, and you can talk to him like you can anybody on the crew. He's a very straight-up dude. He's got to be, I would say, as far as his position, completely unique. In forty years of acting, he's completely unique to me, in the context of the position that he's in. He listened very clearly, and he did the diligence to get to the bottom of it, and it ended up the way it ended up. We were actively communicating, Charlie and I, and we needed to talk to the initial writers constantly every day. We felt like their idea was amazing, but that we were gonna eventually fail if we didn't right the ship a bit."

Based on Vincent D'Onofrio's comments, we can ascertain that Marvel's decision to halt production on the original series might've been a prudent choice as the Disney+ show, as of today, is one of the better-received MCU projects.

What is Daredevil: Born Again about?

Born Again begins on a devastating note as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye kills Foggy in the opening moments of the first episode, "Heaven's Half Hour". Then, the episode jumps to the next year and focuses on Matt, who has become a successful lawyer but retired as the vigilante. However, Wilson Fisk's successful mayoral bid and the emergence of a dangerous serial killer convinces Matt to suit up as The Man Without Fear.

"In Marvel Television’s 'Daredevil: Born Again', Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course."
