Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 concluded its nine-episode run on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. It picks up right where the eighth episode, "Isle of Joy", ended. Matt is hospitalized, and Wilson and Vanessa are safe in a room. Wilson Fisk reveals to Vanessa that he is aware of her role in Foggy Nelson's death. But the episode also finally shines a light on the Red Hook port.

Turns out that Red Hook is a free port, meaning that it is free from the jurisdiction of any city or the United States' jurisdiction. Thus, Wilson wants to use his position as mayor to expand his criminal empire in Red Hook while passing it off as redevelopment.

The Fisks could use the free port to establish their city-state and avoid paying taxes of any kind. Thus, this Fisk never left behind his Kingpin ways in Daredevil: Born Again; he just legalized it by becoming the new mayor. Thus, this episode positions both Wilson and Vanessa Fisk as Thanos of the MCU's street-level heroes. This means that other Netflix Marvel heroes could also return in the future.

This comparison to Titan was also confirmed by Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel, in an interview with ScreenRant on January 4, 2024.

What did Brad Winderbaum say about Daredevil: Born Again's Fisk being the Thanos of the street-level MCU?

Winderbaum sat down for an interview with ScreenRant back on January 3, 2024, to promote the then-upcoming Marvel Spotlight miniseries Echo. In that series, Wilson Fisk was the central antagonist. In fact, the finale's post-credit scene sets up that Wilson will be contesting in the mayoral elections, which played out in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1.

Thus, ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier asked Brad Winderbaum if Marvel was setting up Wilson Fisk as the Thanos in the street-level side of the MCU. To this, Winderbaum responded:

"Oh, man, you kind of hit the nail on the head. I can't say too much. Only that as a chapter in Wilson Fisk's life, this is a crucial one and sets the stage in some remarkable ways for what's coming next."

Considering that the Fisks have rounded up all of their opponents, including Swordsman and The Punisher, enacted martial law, and banned masked vigilantes, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 may feature the return of the other Netflix Marvel heroes: Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage.

While their return isn't official yet, Brad Winderbaum addressed their possible return in an Entertainment Weekly interview published in February 2025. His exact words were:

“I can't say much, but I'll tell you that it's so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox. Obviously we don't have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it. It's dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."

Therefore, it won't be surprising if we might hear the return of the rest of The Defenders soon, or at one of the comic-cons or any other fan conventions.

We will find out the fallout of this finale only in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to stream on Disney+ in 2026.
