Daredevil: Born Again might be setting up this character as the new White Tiger in Season 2 (& it's not Ava Ayala)

Daredevil: Born Again's Episode 6, "Excessive Force," featured Hector Ayala's niece Angela del Toro in a major way. We see her for the first time on the screen for a few seconds in the third episode of Born Again, "The Hollow of His Hand," and after that, she is seen for the second time in the very next one for a minute or two.

In the fourth episode, she goes to the morgue to see Hector's body after receiving the news of his death. But Matt stops her from doing so, perhaps knowing what it feels like to have a loved one, especially a father/father figure, who is a victim of gun violence. She expresses her fear about Hector's death remaining unsolved, and after that, Angela is not seen in the fifth episode of Born Again.

If the series is following the comics, then the makers might be slowly setting Angela to take up Hector's role as the White Tiger, something that may be happening in the second season of Born Again, something that happens in the comics.

In the comics, Angela is an FBI agent who takes up the mantle of the White Tiger after her uncle's death. She is trained by Daredevil to be a vigilante, but soon The Hand corrupts her and The Man Without Fear. She manages to break out of The Hand's control, only to fall under The Maker's (an alternate universe Reed Richards who is evil) control and even gives her another power amulet to enhance her powers.

As Angela is under the Maker's control, her aunt, Ava Ayala, the most known version of the White Tiger, is chosen by the original amulet. Ava successfully frees Angela from both the Maker's and the Hand's control.

A lot of people are theorizing that Born Again Season 2 is adapting the "Shadowland" crossover comic event. In that comic, Matt is possessed by a demonic entity and initiates a reign of terror in Hell's Kitchen. It causes all the street-level heroes of the Marvel Universe to unite and bring Matt back to his senses.

If Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is set after the events of Avengers: Doomsday, reality might be rewritten at the end of the movie, probably turning Matt to the dark side. Some heroes may form a team to fight this evil Matt Murdock, and one of these team members might be the young Angela, who has taken up her deceased uncle's mantle.

Is Daredevil: Born Again setting up Angela to take up the White Tiger mantle in Season 2?

But she does return in the sixth episode of Daredevil: Born Again, where she informs Matt about the missing people from some subway tunnels. Hector was investigating these mysterious disappearances. Learning that Matt won't get anyone to look into these disappearances, Angela decides to investigate these disappearances herself, endangering herself.

Serial killer artist Muse, who is behind these disappearances, abducts Angela as the latter comes close to his lair and begins draining her blood. But Matt puts on the cowl again and fights off Muse after receiving a call from Hector's wife. He rescues Angela in the closing moments of the episode. The Daredevil: Born Again midseason trailer confirms that she will be appearing in an upcoming episode or episodes.

Based on what we have seen of her in these three appearances in the show, the show may be gradually setting her up to take up her uncle's superhero mantle in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is currently filming. Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the director of the fourth episode, "Sic Semper Systema," even confirmed a cut scene in his podcast appearance in Brandon Davis' Phase Hero: A Film & TV Podcast by saying:

"I remember shooting that little sequence with the amulet. As a director I did a few different versions then you send it off to the editorial. I can't remember what in the final version which way we did it. But I did one where it lights up in the bag, one where it stays dark. We did it as like the idea was that it was when the young girl comes, it senses her so it like started illuminating."

If the scene that Nachmanoff described had made it in the final cut, it would've not only set up an ally for Matt in the second season but also a possible here in the long-gestating Young Avengers/Champions series.

The seventh episode of Daredevil: Born Again will be available to stream on Disney+ from April 1, 2025.
