The Daredevil: Born Again trailer has received a tremendous response from fans across the world. The trailer promised an action-packed trailer with dark storylines across the nine episodes of Born Again.
Set in the MCU, we see a retired Matt Murdock having a tense conversation with his archenemy Wilson Fisk, now the mayor of New York. This development promises to bring dark times ahead for Matt.
In the same conversation, we learn that Matt Murdock has retired from crime-fighting in Daredevil: Born Again. This new plot point is confusing for some because, until this trailer, we saw Matt appear both as a lawyer and vigilante in the 2022 Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The retirement plotline confused people wondering about the time gap between the She-Hulk show and Born Again.
Why Matt Murdock's retirement in Daredevil: Born Again doesn't make sense after his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law?
Matt Murdock's retirement plot-line could've been interesting if Daredevil: Born Again was not a part of the MCU. However, Murdock was active during the events of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which takes place in the year 2025 in the current MCU timeline. Conversely, Born Again supposedly takes place in the MCU timeline's present day, i.e., 2026.
While Matt Murdock retiring as Daredevil might be a possibility after his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's eighth and ninth episodes. However, the canonical year-long gap wouldn't be that meaningful. Instead, it would've been described as a brief hiatus rather than retirement. The Born Again trailer gives the impression that Murdock retired a long time ago.
So, it remains to be seen how Daredevil: Born Again will explain away the chronology and timeline issues. It could be possible that as it begins streaming, the show could explain that the events of Born Again unravel a few years after the events of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
What is Daredevil: Born Again about?
Matt Murdock is leading a quiet life after retiring as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen and has found a new love in Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva). But, this is just calm before the storm as danger rises on two fronts. Wilson Fisk is the legally elected mayor of New York and Muse, a psychotic muralist who paints art using the organs of his victims.
"In Marvel Television’s 'Daredevil: Born Again', Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course."
How would you explain away the timeline inconsistencies between She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and the first episode of Born Again? Can the writers of Daredevil: Born Again explain these discrepancies? We will find out soon enough as the show will begin streaming its first episode on March 4, 2025, across the world. You can stream the episodes on Disney+.
As the first episode will be accessible to the public, the next season of the show will begin production anytime before March 4.
