Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 8, titled, 'Isle of Joy,' connects to the first episode of Born Again titled, 'Heaven's Half Hour,' in a major way. We finally learn who put out the hit on Foggy Nelson—it was none other than Vanessa Fisk, and probably for now, Wilson isn't aware of it. But he may soon find out about it in the finale of Born Again next week.

To make situations worse, Bullseye, aka Benjamin Poindexter, returns in this episode, and as expected, he escapes incarceration. He makes his way to a party organized by Wilson Fisk, intending to kill him. This endangers every attendee in that event. The synopsis for the episode reads as:

"At his inaugural Black and White Ball, Mayor Fisk tightens his grip on New York City. Matt Murdock learns shocking information when an old enemy reaches out."

Daredevil: Born Again Episode 8 Recap: Mystery unfolds and a character returns

Here's a list of events that happened in Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 8:

Benjamin Poindexter returns

Episode 8, 'Isle of Joy,' opens with Benjamin Poindexter in his prison cell, gazing at a blue flower outside. Then, the guards transfer him to the gen pop or general population section of the prison with other dangerous inmates under Fisk's order for unknown reasons. The guards bid goodbye to him and intentionally refer to him as "Agent Poindexter" in the hearing distance of other criminals to endanger him.

After this, the opening theme of Daredevil: Born Again starts play.

Trouble starts brewing in Matt and Heather's relationship

Heather is dealing with the guilt of shooting Muse and is blaming even Daredevil, which Matt tries to counter. Eventually, they are interrupted by a knock on the door, and the visitor turns out to be Wilson Fisk's right-hand man, Buck. He comes there to invite Heather to the mayoral ball. This sparks an argument between the two as Matt suspects that Fisk intentionally sought Heather as a therapist.

Heather invites Matt to the Ball but isn't sure if Matt will accompany her or not. This argument causes Matt to spiral a bit, and he is late for a meeting with an important client at the firm. Right before the meeting, Kirsten McDuffie informs Matt about Poindexter's transfer to gen pop and his request to meet him, further worsening Matt's mood.

The meeting goes sideways when a client—a man accused of stealing money from teachers—lies to Matt, causing him to lash out while also suggesting taking a plea deal for the client's own good.

Wilson confesses holding Adam hostage to Vanessa

Wilson takes Vanessa to the Red Hook Port and reveals that the funding for his port project got approved. Then, he takes her to the basement, where Adam is held captive. The viewers learn that Adam survived Fisk's beating in the sixth Daredevil: Born Again episode titled, 'Excessive Force.' He gives Vanessa the choice to free Adam or shoot either him or Adam. Additionally, he reveals that he can't live without her.

Vanessa picks up the gun and fatally shoots Adam, and Wilson promises never to leave her again, finally reconciling their relationship.

Matt finally returns to Josie's

After the terrible client meeting, Matt stands outside the doors of Josie's Bar for the first time since the night Foggy died in Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 1, 'Heaven's Half Hour.' Josie recognizes Matt and opens the door, and soon after, Cherry walks in. Matt expresses his fears to Cherry about Fisk's contrived plan to destroy his life, but Cherry remains skeptical. Suddenly, through this interaction, Matt realizes that Foggy was actually happy about something the night he died.

This epiphany leads Matt to finally visit Rikers to meet Poindexter, believing that Wilson Fisk was the one who hired him.

Poindexter wants Matt's help

Benjamin Poindexter wants Matt's help to get out of gen pop, and in exchange, he will confess who ordered the hit on Foggy. But Matt, in response, refuses and smashes Poindexter's head on the table. Poindexter thanks Matt, and we learn why he did so in a few minutes. Turns out, Matt's smashing Poindexter's head loosened one of his teeth.

An uncuffed Benjamin is in the prison hospital while getting stitches on his head. After the doctor completes the stitch, the guard comes over to cuff him. That is when he places the broken teeth between his mouth and spits at the guard, injuring him. After freeing himself, Poindexter kills the guard and the doctor, and escapes Rikers as a guard.

A fellow guard even sees his face, but as guards are regularly attacked in the prison, he assumes Poindexter to be one of the guards. Then, he makes it to the party organized by the mayor.

Matt visits the party

Matt visits the party and dances with Heather. Midway through the dance, he figures out that Vanessa is in charge of Fisk's empire and realizes it was she who hired Poindexter to kill Foggy. He confronts her and asks her if Wilson knows that she ordered the hit. However, Matt soon realizes that Poindexter is in the room and attempting to shoot Wilson.

Thus, Matt takes the bullet meant for Wilson, his worst enemy, ending the episode. This refers to the scene between Matt and Benjamin Poindexter earlier in this episode of Daredevil: Born Again. In that scene, Benjamin tells Matt that a good man would defend even his worst enemy. Thus, Matt taking the bullet suggests that he is inherently a hero—and therefore, a good man.
