Daredevil: Born Again's sixth episode, Excessive Force, finally featured Matt Murdock in his vigilante costume after the first episode's prologue. In the first half of the episode, Hector Ayala's niece, Angela, visits Matt in his office to implore him to look into the matter her uncle was investigating before his death: the missing people.
Disillusioned after this conversation, Angela decides to take matters into her own hands.
She goes into the tunnels and is taken hostage by the serial killer muralist, Muse. Matt receives a call from Soledad, Hector's wife, informing Matt that Angela's phone is unreachable.
Matt figures out that Angela has gone to the tunnels to investigate the disappearances and decides to suit up as Daredevil. The scene cuts to Muse carrying an unconscious Angela to drain her blood.
But he is interrupted by The Man Without Fear, who rescues Angela. As the midseason trailer reveals, we'll see more of her in the upcoming episodes of Daredevil: Born Again. So, Angela is very much alive in the series.
What happens in Daredevil: Born Again, Episode 6?
The sixth episode, titled Excessive Force, finally features Muse in a larger role. In this episode of Daredevil: Born Again, every major character, including Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock, is made aware of Muse's killings.
Matt learns about the disappearances attributed to Muse first through Angela and then through Cherry, who is tipped about these serial killings through a contact in the police force.
Thus, it is triumphant to see Daredevil on the screen after the series set up this moment for the previous five episodes. However, this episode does hint that The Man Without Fear is in a darker place than he was in the original Netflix series.
He almost kills Muse in this episode, until he is made aware of Angela's faint heartbeat. He finally administers CPR on Angela, thus saving her life.
However, if not for Angela's heartbeat, Matt would've broken his no-kill rule. Even the midseason trailer released on March 25, 2025, hints at a more brutal Daredevil who has teamed up with the Punisher.
Given that Angela is playing a prominent role in the series, it seems like Daredevil: Born Again is setting up Angela to take up her mantle of The White Tiger from her uncle.
That's what happens in the comics after Hector's death. However, there is one difference though, Angela is a grown adult and an FBI agent who suits up as the White Tiger.
Actually, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the director of the fourth episode, confirmed an alternate scene that would've hinted at Angela's role as the White Tiger. During an interview with Brandon Davis, Nachmanoff revealed that he filmed an alternate scene featuring the amulet, which would've lit up at her presence. He said:
"I remember shooting that little sequence with the amulet. As a director I did a few different versions then you send it off to the editorial. I can't remember what in the final version which way we did it. But I did one where it lights up in the bag, one where it stays dark. We did it as like the idea was that it was when the young girl comes, it senses her so it like started illuminating."
If one of these filmed scenes had made it to the final cut of the fourth episode, it would've caused fans to theorize about her place in the Young Avengers/Champions series.
The fifth and sixth episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are currently streaming on Disney+.
