Matt Murdock meets Yusuf Khanin Daredevil: Born Again
Episode 5 of Daredevil: Born Again felt like a low-key Ms. Marvel crossover. And we have to thank Yusuf Khan for that!
This Daredevil: Born Again episode kicks off with Matt Murdock walking into a bank, hoping to get a loan for his law firm. However, his loan application gets denied and he leaves—only to hear terrified screams moments later.
His heightened senses immediately detect the distress. So he heads back to the bank after quickly telling Kirsten to call 911. He walks in with an eerie calmness. He whistles as he assesses the situation inside the bank.
There is a group of armed robbers inside who are holding hostages, including Yusuf Khan who is the assistant bank manager. The robbers force everyone to kneel and Matt who is now a helpless blind man takes his place next to Yusuf. But of course, we all know Matt is anything but helpless.
The cops arrive after some time and begin negotiating with the lead robber. But Matt realizes something is off. The robbers aren't threatened by the presence of the cops outside; they are there to get what they want.
Matt can hear every heartbeat, every nervous breath. He realizes these guys aren’t after cash. We already know that the robbers are working under Luca's instructions. Luca is a man tied to Wilson Fisk. He owes a hefty 1.8 million and has sent these guys to retrieve something specific from the bank’s vault. But, the bank manager is absent. So the robbers turn to the next best thing, Yusuf Khan.
They demand that he lead them to the vault. Outside, Detective Kim tries to de-escalate the situation. Matt seizes an opportunity. He asks to use the restroom. And one of the robbers escorts him.
But Matt strikes the moment they are alone on the staircase. What we then see is a masterclass in precision. We see silent and calculated movements that keep Matt hidden.
The highlight of this Daredevil: Born Again episode is perhaps when the robber’s gun slips and is about to clatter down the stairs. That's when Matt precisely catches it just before it falls down and makes a sound. This is just a reminder of how he is always in control.
Back at the vault, Yusuf is stalling. He is trying to delay opening the vault but the robber isn't having it. Just then Matt swoops in, taking down another thug. Yusuf is stunned—he still thinks Matt is just a blind lawyer. But he just watched him somehow maneuver through the situation like he could see everything.
Then comes one of the biggest flexes of the series yet. Yusuf tells Matt there is no way he can crack the vault’s security system because it has “over a hundred million possible combinations.” But Matt just listens closely to the sound of the locking machine and unlocks it.
Only after going inside the vault, did Matt put the pieces together. The robbers aren’t after money; they are after something else. He searches for one of the fallen thugs and finds a key. Inside the locker, they find an orange stone.
What’s so special about this gem? We don’t know yet.
Matt is invited to dinner at the Khan's

Next in Daredevil: Born Again we see Matt and Yusuf Khan return to the main area where the robbers along with the hostage are. Then hearing the sound of the cops about to come in, Matt stalls the robbers just a bit longer.
Soon the cops blast their way in and the robbers scatter. Matt catches up to the lead guy for a brawl. But there is another twist and that is—one of the hostages was actually in on the heist. We see the lead robber secretly slip her the stone before escaping. Later when we think she has it we find out she only has an orange candy instead.
So where’s the gem? Yusuf Khan wonders. Well, it turns out Matt pulled off one last sleight of hand.
He later returns to the bank to check in on Yusuf. And that's when he casually accepts an orange candy—something he had declined before. As he walks away Yusuf looks at his bowl of candies and spots something unusual. He sees the very same orange stone.
There is no dialogue. No explanation—just a quiet moment where Yusuf likely realizes the truth: Matt had the gem all along and made sure it stayed safe.
But the biggest takeaway from this episode of Daredevil: Born Again is that Yusuf Khan is so impressed he invites Matt to dinner in Jersey City. And we all know who lives in Jersey City—Yusuf Khan's daughter, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. So is a team-up on the horizon? It sure looks like Marvel might be hinting at one!
The MCU has a history of weaving together character storylines, and the inclusion of Yusuf Khan in Daredevil: Born Again could be a deliberate move to bridge the narratives of Daredevil and Ms. Marvel.
That makes sense as both the heroes are in close geographical proximity. So their paths could cross. Yusuf's invitation may introduce Matt Murdock to Kamala Khan's world. This could potentially lead to a collaboration between the two heroes.
But still there are no official announcements as of now. The breadcrumbs laid out in Daredevil: Born Again could suggest that Marvel might be setting the groundwork for future collaborations.
And fans will undoubtedly be eager to see how these connections develop in upcoming MCU installments.
