The much-awaited debut of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ had a special meaning for Marvel fans. It paid tribute to Kamar de los Reyes, who plays White Tiger in the show. At the start of Episode 2, there was a heartfelt title card:
"In Loving Memory of Kamar de los Reyes."
Kamar de los Reyes passed away from cancer on Christmas Eve, 2023, at 56 years old. His work as White Tiger in Daredevil: Born Again is one of his last performances. Fans were touched by the tribute and talked about how his character's journey of fighting through tough times reflected his strength and bravery.
Who was Kamar de los Reyes from Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 tribute?
Born Again's Kamar de los Reyes was a renowned actor from Puerto Rico with a career that lasted over 30 years. He became very popular for playing Antonio Vega on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, a part that gave him a loyal fan following. Besides being on daytime TV, de los Reyes had important roles in other shows like Sleepy Hollow, The Rookie, and All American.
Gamers might also know him for his voice and motion-capture work as Raul Menendez, the main bad guy in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Kamar was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in Las Vegas with a family that loved music.
His dad, Walfredo de los Reyes, and his brothers Daniel and Walfredo Jr., were great at playing percussion. Even though he chose acting over music, he brought a lot of skill and love for performing to every job he did.
Kamar was married to actress Sherri Saum and had twin boys.
Hector Ayala/White Tiger’s role in Daredevil: Born Again
Hector Ayala, played by de los Reyes, is an important character who enters the story in Episode 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. He's known as White Tiger, a vigilante working to keep his neighborhood safe.
However, he faces a big problem when people think he killed a police officer and he's not treated as a hero anymore. That's when Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, steps in to help him.
White Tiger's journey is about fighting for justice and facing corruption. It's a big part of what Daredevil: Born Again is all about. In the comics, Hector Ayala was the very first mainstream Latin American superhero, starting in 1975's Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #19.
White Tiger is a pivotal part of Latin American representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 1 and 2 are now on Disney+.
