Dancing with the Stars recently celebrated its 500th episode on November 12, 2024, marking almost 19 years of the show with 33 seasons so far. The show follows an engaging concept: professional dancers are paired with glamourous celebrities to battle it out on the dancing ground and win the prestigious Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.
The show premiered in 2005 on ABC and was created as an American spin-off of the British version, Strictly Come Dancing. Many great names have been associated with the show so far, and it was a moment of history when the real-life couple, Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, competed against each other in season 21.
For the first time in Dancing with the Stars history, a couple faced each other off in the dancing battle. However, Alexa PenaVega opened up about her experience from the season and called it a bitter-sweet moment of her married life. She chimed in about the "unexpected" behavior of Judge Julianne Hough, who seemed hard on Carlos PenaVega, who was also Julianne's Grease Live costar.
Alexa shared Carlos's experience on the show during Cheryl Burke's podcast on November 4, 2024:
"Will say what was really hard for Carlos was, you know, he's being judged by Jules the whole time while he's on the show. But then he has to go work with her right after. And he was like, this is so weird because she won't even say hi."

The celebrity couple Alexa and Carlos PenaVega participated in Dancing with the Stars in season 21, which aired in 2015. Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough, and Bruno Tonioli judged the season. Besides not getting along with Judge Julianne Hough, Carlos also encountered jealousy issues as they were paired with two talented professional dancers.
Alexa PenaVega was paired with Mark Ballas, and Carlos was paired with Whitney Carson. During a podcast with Cheryl Burke in November 2024, Alexa PenaVega opened up about Carlos's jealousy issues, citing that their journey on the show was rocky. She mentioned, recalling her time on the show:
"Carlos at that season of his life, was such a jealous man that even though he understood the dynamic, it was still hard for him. And you know how it is. It is incredibly flirty."
She also spoke about her dynamics with her dancing partner, Mark Ballas, and called him "incredible." She also recalled sometimes behaving a little mean with the Dancing with the Stars professional dancer, Mark Ballas, to set healthy boundaries. Eventually, the two could work together as Mark understood Alexa's point.
Both the PenaVegas made it clear that their marriage came first for them and told their respective Dancing with the Stars partners:
"'Look, we're a married couple. You guys are our partners, and we are so excited to team up with you. But that doesn't mean we ditch our marriage and this becomes our number one. Our marriage is still first." said Alexa during the podcast.
