Since the show's announcement, Netflix’s newest reality cooking series, Culinary Class Wars, has been topping the charts. This is no ordinary cooking show but an intense platform for chefs across Korea to exhibit their skills and gastronomical knowledge.

Furthermore, instead of mentors who would ideally judge them, they’ll be cooking off against globally renowned bigwigs of the food world. The series has already climbed to the top of Netflix’s Global Top 10 list for TV (non-English) shows, with 3,800,000 views in just one week!

Culinary Class Wars, per Netflix’s Tudum, is Physical 100 personified—with “more clothing and less mud.” Similarly, instead of performing high-intensity physical fitness challenges, the participants will conquer dextrous cooking techniques and test the extent of their knowledge of food, redefining it.

When will Culinary Class Wars be released?

The first seven episodes of Culinary Class Wars began streaming on September 17, 2024. However, since the series has a total of 12 episodes, three of the two episodes will drop on October 1, 2024. The finale episodes—the show’s remainder—will air on October 8, 2024.

The series has already upped the ante by introducing stellar chefs, dishes, and strict deadlines to deliver.

Each chef’s reputation and career are at stake, and neither side is willing to back down from a challenge. With the series already performing this well, speculations and viewership ratings suggest there may be room for a new season.

What is Culinary Class Wars about?

Culinary Class Wars is the ultimate platform for budding chefs to make it big in the food industry. The series features 100 chefs from different parts of Korea engaging in a cut-throat battle against the most skilled, experienced, and renowned chefs in the food world.

The show follows the concept of a pro versus amateur in which the amateurs are recognized as Black Spoons, and the veterans are White Spoons, the challengers.

The official synopsis from Netflix’s Tudum reads:

“Eighty Black Spoon underdog cooks with a knack for flavor face 20 elite White Spoon chefs in a fierce cooking showdown among 100 contenders.”

In this winner-take-all battle, the chef who overcomes each challenge and produces a plate of food with maximum panache, flavor, and skill will go on to become the master of Culinary Class Wars.

Who are the Judges and contestants in Culinary Class Wars?

Culinary Class Wars went all out when putting together a judges panel and the contestants. The judges for this season are Chefs Paik Jong-Won and Anh Sung-jae.

Jong-Won is a globally recognized restauranteur and the proprietor of several noteworthy eateries in Korea and around the world. He owns Theborn Korea Inc., Saemaul Sikdang, Baek’s Coffee, and Baek’s Bibim.

Chef Anh Sung-Jae is a culinary prodigy, having been awarded Three Michelin stars earlier in 2022. The chef has worked in the best restaurants across the world, amassing a wealth of experience in cooking.

When it comes to the contestants in Culinary Class Wars - the show has a bunch of geniuses who’ve been a cause of hype for the show. The series's showstoppers include Hidden Genius, Auntie Omakase #1, Korean Taco King, Yakitori King, and Blue House Chef, to name a few.

The trailer began with a dramatic display of lights, introducing both White Spoon and Black Spoon Chef. It continued to highlight key moments in the competition, including service time, the cooking process, and playful banter.

Furthermore, it also offered insight into the judging criteria: to quote Chef Paik Jong-Won, they’ll be solely judged on “taste.” The unscripted series also featured several stills of a blindfold tasting, and Chef Jong-Won spit out what he was eating.

The judges aren’t mincing their words, per the trailer, and neither are the chefs. The trailer concluded with a monochromatic setting, with the series' name coming into view.

The first 7 episodes of Culinary Class Wars are now available to binge on Netflix!
