Cross is the latest book-to-TV adaptation landing on Prime Video. It brings to life the iconic character of Alex Cross. The character was created by the author James Patterson.
Known for creating memorable characters and thrillers, Patterson’s Alex Cross series has been a fan-favorite since the ‘90s. With over 30 books (and counting), there’s a deep well of material. And the new show promises to pull out all the stops.
The star of Cross is Aldis Hodge. He’s stepping into the shoes of Alex Cross. He plays a D.C. homicide detective with a mind as sharp as his sense of justice.
Previous film versions had some big names, but this new show gives Cross’s story a whole new spin. Here’s a full rundown on the release date, plot, cast, and more about Cross.
Cross: Release date
Cross is all set to drop on November 14, 2024.
All eight episodes of the season will be released at once. So, it will make for a perfect binge-watch during the weekend.
Anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription can catch the whole season for free. This is an added bonus for those who are already a Prime member.
For those who don’t have Prime yet, you can either subscribe or rent/buy Season 1.
Cross: Plot
The show is based on the Alex Cross book series. But it isn’t tied to any one book. Creator Ben Watkins decided to give fans something new. He wanted an original storyline.
So, Cross draws from the essence of Patterson’s books, but it’s not bound to the specific plotlines of novels like Along Came a Spider or Kiss the Girls. Instead, it’s a fresh take on Alex’s world.
James Patterson, the mastermind behind the series, is totally on board with this approach. He’s stated that he wanted the show to stand independently. This would offer viewers a new experience.
According to the official synopsis, this crime thriller centers on Alex Cross. He is not only a decorated homicide detective but also a forensic psychologist. The show is about Cross and his best friend and partner, John Sampson.
They track down a sadistic serial killer terrorizing Washington, D.C. But it’s not just the killer causing trouble. Someone from Cross’s past resurfaces, threatening everything he’s built. And that includes his family and career.
Ben Watkins hints that the show will touch on relevant social themes. It will specifically address the complex relationship between law enforcement and the Black community.

Will there be a Cross Season 2?
Even before season 1 airs, Cross has already been renewed for a second season.
According to Deadline, Watkins said:
“Moments like this don’t happen by accident. Getting a Season 2 pickup before our first season even drops is a huge testament and vote of confidence in the amazing work our crew, cast, directors, writers and production team have delivered thus far… I am grateful for all of the above and can’t wait to run it back even bigger and better.”
