"A Very Funny Monster", the Creature Commandos finale saw the first season's heart Nina Mazursky meet her maker as she tried to kill the princess. The critically acclaimed seven-episode animated series sets up its second season with new recruits to the team. This version of Creature Commandos has characters like The Suicide Squad's King Shark, Nosferata, Khalis, and a rebuilt G.I. Robot.
The season 1 finale also sets up other events in the DCU by killing off Ilana Rostovic. Theories are running wild on the repercussions of The Bride murdering Ilana at the latter's own castle and then managing to escape back to Belle Reve. So, the new version of Task Force M has a lot on its hands.
Which characters are part of Creature Commandos?
As stated before, Nina is dead. So, until the closing moments of the Creature Commandos, the team was down one member. The new iteration of Task Force M consists of four members from the first season including The Bride, who is the team leader, G.I. Robot with a new body, Weasel, and Doctor Phosphorus. The other three members, the recruits are Khalis, King Shark, and Nosferata.
Fans are wondering "Will there be a larger DCU team in Season 2?" And by looking at the new members, it is clear that there will be a larger team for the DCU in Season 2. Here are the new members:
King Shark
Fans have been hoping to see King Shark in this show for a while. This gentle giant shark was one of the few Task Force X/ Suicide Squad members to survive Project Starfish. One thing is different though. Sylvester Stallone did not return to voice King Shark in Creature Commandos. This time, Diedrich Bader voices the character.
Nosferata
The character of Nosferata is a humanoid creature who looks like a bat and has wings. While she is seen in the previous episodes as a Belle Reve inmate, she is playing ping pong with Doctor Phosphorus in the concluding scenes of Creature Commandos finale. In the Comics, Nosferata is a vampire who frequently battles Superboy.
We know very little about the DCU version of Nosferata. We'll probably learn her backstory in the second season of the show. More importantly, her presence could hint at the existence of vampires in the DCU. This way DCU can beat the MCU, in introducing vampires in their comic book adaptations.
Khalis
In the DC Comics lore, Khalis is a mantle taken up by multiple characters. The one we meet in the Creature Commandos finale is most probably the second incarnation. This Khalis was a revived mummy. While we see less of this Khalis, his surprising hobby of knitting hints at the character's personality.
While the majority of viewers thought the ones mentioned above were the new members of Task Force M, some were wondering if they were just a cameo. James Gunn was asked whether these new characters hint at a larger team in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes TV. Gunn said this:
“Nosferata, King Shark, who we’ve met in Suicide Squad, so it’s basically that King Shark…new, improved G.I. Robot, he’s not dead after all. He’s a robot. Then Khalis. So we got a mummy happening. I’m pretty interested in how we do a mummy. I’ve never been a big mummy guy. I’m a werewolf guy if I’m being honest with you.”
Thus, the answer to the question "Will there be a larger DCU team in Season 2?" is yes. We will see a bigger team in Creature Commandos Season 2.
How does Creature Commandos finale set up future events?
The Bride shoots Princess Rostovic, definitively killing the latter. While Economos and The Bride believe that Circe's vision of the future is averted, this action may have not changed anything. There's no way that Pokolistan is not going to retaliate against this action. The technologically advanced arms and strong Pokolistani army can be a serious threat to the United States.
More importantly, Creature Commandos may have set the events of the Waller series. Back in the January 2023 announcement, we did see an image of Amanda Waller from the comics being arrested. So, the US government to avoid war with Pokolistan may just pin the blame on Amanda Waller.
We can meet this new iteration of Task Force M in Creature Commandos Season 2. Until then you can enjoy the entire first season on Max.
