Just one more episode and Creature Commandos Season 1 will conclude on Max. Fans shouldn't worry about the animated show's future as it has been already renewed for a second chapter. However, before season 1 ends, it delves into some of the heartbreaking backstories and origins of a few characters.
Created by James Gunn, Creature Commandos is one of the trending animated series, that focuses on the iconic misfits of the DC universe, navigating covert military missions. The missions are so dangerous that they cannot be handled by ordinary people, so the misfits must join forces to succeed.
What makes the animated show even more intriguing to watch is how it manages a dark yet playful tone. The story kicks off with Amanda Waller introducing Rick Flag Sr. to the monstrous beings who are then taken to form a black ops team.
While the animated show dives into their missions, it also features emotional backstories of characters like Weasel, who was misunderstood by many just because of his unusual behavior, and now the penultimate episode reveals the horrifying origin of Doctor Phosphorus.
The character is voiced by Alan Tudyk, who once in an interview with Collider teased:
"He's a skeleton on fire. He's a DC character. He was a doctor. [Laughs] That's why they call him doctor. He was an obstetrician. No, he wasn't. He was… I don't know what the comics say, so I don't wanna say what his origin story is because it is covered in the series"
The sixth episode explains how an incredibly talented scientist named Alexander Sartorius transformed into a villainous character Doctor Phosphorus. Continue reading to dive deep into what happened with him in the past.
Creature Commandos reveals the haunting origin of Doctor Phosphorus
If you've been wondering about Doctor Phosphorus's origin and how he ended up as a terrifying being, Creature Commandos Episode 6 answered all the questions. It delves into Weasel's adventure; The Bride and Nina Mazursky finding safety in a local brothel, and Rick Flag Sr. being attacked.
However, what takes center stage in the episode is the origin of Doctor Phosphorus by blending his present-day actions with a heartbreaking backstory. He's currently hiding in a dumpster, and eventually breaks into a house and encounters a little girl.
What seems like a potential threat turns heartwarming as Doctor Phosphorus shares breakfast and plays with her before departing. The flashback scene then reveals that he was a scientist named Alexander Sartorius who was working on a nuclear fusion machine, hoping to cure cancer.
However, his noble goal soon takes a dark turn when Alexander receives funding from Gotham City gangster Rupert Thorn. Aware of the gangster and urged by his wife, Alexander hides his findings from Rupert.
Later in the flashback featured in the Creature Commandos episode, Rupert uncovers the deception and in a moment of rage, kills Alexander's wife and son. Not only this, but he also forces Alexander to touch the murder weapon and frames him for the crime.
Alexander eventually confesses that he messed up with the research, even though he was close to a discovery. Rupert's brutally peaked when he throws Alexander into a nuclear chamber, changing him into a vengeful villain, Doctor Phosphorus.
As a result, Doctor Phosphorus murdered Thorn and his family, including people related to this tragedy. He even took over Gotham's crime world, but Batman didn't let his reign survive for long.
