Creature Commandos is trying its best to herald a new dawn at DC. Creature Commandos is the latest seven-part animated series created by James Gunn and draws from characters of the DC universe. The show debuted on December 5, 2024, on Max. The first two episodes were premiered simultaneously, with subsequent episodes hitting the screens every Thursday. Creature Commandos season 1 episode 4, titled Chasing Squirrels, released on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Taking its cue from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC finally went in for an overhaul of their intellectual property by setting up the brand new DCU, with its first chapter titled Gods and Monsters. Creature Commandos happens to be the first television series to chart its course across this new phase of the DCU. The official description of the show reads:
"Amanda Waller assembles a covert team of monstrous operatives, including a werewolf, vampire, and gorgon, to undertake high-risk missions deemed too perilous for human agents."
During the third episode titled Cheers to the Tin Man, the team led by Amanda arrived at the manor to rescue the bride and Nina. In the fourth episode, they returned back home to cure Circe's itch while Weasel tried to figure out what made him end up at Belle Reve. Here's all that we know.

Although Creature Commandos isn't currently airing in any other foreign countries, creator and DC co-CEO James Gunn pointed out in an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub that worldwide distribution might be in the works and that they're considering a few major options.
James Gunn opens up about the show
Speaking in the interview with Steve Weintraub, James Gunn recently opened up about the genesis of the show, which he wrote before joining DC. He stated:
"It wasn't exactly a spec thing. I talked to Peter Girardi from Warner Bros. Animation, and he was like, “You should do something in animation.” He says, “What do you want to do?” And I'm like, “I think I wanna do Creature Commandos.” So, I went and wrote the episodes. So, it was sort of spec, but it wasn't really."
Speaking about the possibility of a potential second season, Dean Lorey added:
"We’ve discussed that we’d love to do it. And as you can see from the end of Season (1), it’s pretty clear the direction, or at least the people that we’d like to go forward with in Season (2). So obviously, we think there’s a lot of story to tell. Part of it is, will James ever have time to write it?"
Creature Commandos airs every Thursday on Max.
