“Could have worked things out:” Sister Wives star Kody Brown reflects on his marriage with Janelle

Sister Wives, the TLC reality TV series has showcased the family drama where Kody Brown is their patriarch. Kody was in a polygamous relationship and married four women Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. However, due to the problems and clashes alongside shifting family dynamics, Kody's wives, Christine, Janelle, and Meri went their separate ways.

As of now, Kody is only married to Robyn and is navigating the changes within their family after his divorce. In a clip posted to the official TLC Instagram account on February 9, 2025, Kody opened up about his relationship with Janelle. He recalled the major moments from their marriage and shared that he sometimes wonders if they could have been able to work through their problems. The Sister Wives cast member said:

“I hear about Christine [Brown] falling in love and getting married and stuff like this, and I’m, like, going, ‘Well, good on Christine.’ Janelle was a different story. I always thought … I just felt like Janelle and I could have worked it out.”

Sister Wives star Kody Brown talks about his connection with Janelle Brown

In the TLC clip, Sister Wives star Kody Brown recalled the moments from his marriage with Janelle. He implied that if the circumstances were different their marriage would have lasted and they "could have worked it out." While talking about Christine, the Brown family patriarch stated he was happy for her for moving forward in her life and falling in love once again. For Kody, Meri, on the other hand, was more of "a friend" to him and was hoping they could reconcile. He continued:

“I kind of look at Meri [Brown] still as a friend. I’m sure both of us, mutually, will get back to that place. I have hope that Meri and I would be friends.”

After revealing where he stands with his ex-wives currently, the Sister Wives cast member shared he often wonders what his life would have been like if he and Janelle had resolved their issues. During the February 7, 2025 episode of the TLC series, Kody further opened up about his connection with Janelle even though they both have parted ways.

This happened after Meri decided to split spiritually through church. In his confessional interview, Kody Brown said that he didn't want to spiritually part ways with Meri, Christine, and Janelle, he talked about his feelings regarding this matter and said:

"I didn’t feel like I needed a spiritual divorce from Meri, and I didn’t feel like I needed a spiritual divorce from Christine [Brown]. I don’t know if there’s some kind of karmic connection that Janelle and I are obligated to still.”

Meanwhile, Janelle told the cameras that she might consider a "spiritual release" as well as following the footsteps similar to Christine and Meri. She continued by mentioning that she liked the idea of a spiritual divorce;

'“I know Meri has just recently gotten a release like what we call a release, which is a divorce. And it’s made me think, ‘Huh, I kind of like the idea of getting a spiritual release.’ But I don’t even know who to call."
