Toxic Town premiered on Netflix on February 27, 2025, and has been rising through the streaming viewership charts ever since. The British drama is based on a real story that draws the audience’s attention to the much-needed subject of air pollution, and how it can impact unborn babies in their mothers’ wombs.
The show follows a group of mothers from the town of Corby, England, who have to fight a decade-long battle against the people responsible for toxic waste in the town. Due to the pollution, their children were born with physical defects.
The series features only four episodes, which has left many among the audience asking for more. However, Netflix has not yet renewed Toxic Town for a second season. It has been billed as a limited series, which usually runs for just one season, but there have been exceptions in the past.
The possibility of Toxic Town Season 2 on Netflix
As of now, Toxic Town has not been renewed for Season 2 by Netflix. The show was marketed as a miniseries with four episodes. However, there have been shows in the past that started as limited series but later ran for multiple seasons due to popularity and viewership.
Netflix’s own show, Beef, was labeled as a limited series but will get a second season. Similar is the case with HBO’s The White Lotus, which recently started airing its third season.
If Toxic Town also accumulates a huge fan base and tops the streaming charts for a few weeks consistently, Netflix might decide to renew it for a second season. For now, the show has taken a great start and is already in the top 10 list in many countries.
From the story point of view; however, all the plot points have been resolved in the first season itself. The show is based on a true story, which has been covered in the four-episode debut installment.
Hence, if Netflix chooses to renew the show for a sophomore chapter, the show might follow an anthology format by focusing on another environmental issue. A similar trend has been followed in Beef and The White Lotus.
On the other hand, the creators can also decide to continue the story from the first season and delve deep into the lives of characters like Susan and Maggie. For now, Toxic Town Season 2 is not on the cards, but that might change in the future based on the show’s viewership.
How did Toxic Town Season 1 end?
Toxic Town tells the true story of Corby, a town in the UK that faced a big environmental issue. For years, many children were born in the town with limb differences and other health issues. At first, no one noticed the pattern, but eventually a group of mothers realized something was wrong.
They believed that toxic waste from an old steel plant was causing the problems and decided to sue the town council. The mothers faced a tough legal battle as they had to prove that the chemicals from the steel plant were dangerous.
They also had to prove that the toxins from the steel plant had spread to their neighborhoods and that the council had been careless. There had never been a case like this before, so it was difficult for the mothers to fight against the authorities.
In the end, they won the case. The court ruled that the council was responsible, and they had to pay a settlement of about 14.6 million pounds. This was a huge victory for environmental justice and the case showed that pollution could harm unborn babies, which helped in changing environmental policies.
All episodes of Toxic Town are streaming on Netflix.
