Taylor Sheridan’s Landman dropped episode 6 on December 15, 2024, and in this episode the viewers watched Tommy deciding to not kill Manuel even after going for him to take revenge.
Episode 5 of Landman ended on a cliffhanger when Manuel and Antonio, along with their other pals attacked Cooper in his trailer, as the latter had been helping Ariana with various household chores since her husband passed away despite being warned against it.
Cooper’s fate was not revealed in episode 5 but to everyone’s relief, he was found to be alive in the next episode. Moreover, in episode 6, Tommy along with Sheriff Joeberg went ahead to teach Manuel and his friends a lesson. While it seemed that it would be the end of Manuel, surprisingly, he was not killed by Tommy.
Let us now explore in detail why Tommy took such a decision and let his son Cooper’s attackers live.

Tommy does not kill Manuel in Yellowstone Episode 6
Being the crisis management executive of the oil company, Tommy has a good relationship with Sheriff Joeberg and does have the law on his side. However, even then, murdering someone would have created a huge mess for him that would have negatively affected his image in the area and also would have caused much trouble for the Sheriff.
Manuel attacking Cooper was a piece of news big enough and therefore Sheriff Joeberg wanted to close the case without getting anyone murdered. If Tommy had killed Manuel, which he could have, they might have had to face consequences from Manuel’s family, which again would have created long-term troubles.
Moreover, Tommy has his own problems with the company to deal with, and committing a murder, which would have several people as witnesses would have only added to his worries. Therefore, for everyone’s benefit, Tommy decided against killing Manuel, and Manuel was instead arrested only.

Tommy has other issues than dealing with Manuel in Landman
While getting Manuel arrested for what he did to Cooper seems like a small win for Tommy, he is bugged by several problems in the show. As was shown in the very first episode of Landman, the cartel goods containing the ruck-plane blow-up caused heavy trouble for Tommy as the cartel people reappeared in episode 5 to ask for money for the damages they faced.
It was only natural that Tommy could not offer them any compensation and had to scare them away but it seems like it would be a recurring problem for him if he did not find a better solution to it.
Moreover, Tommy is also in a huge debt of $500,000 since the oil rig explosion that happened at the end of episode 1. As a result, Monty’s company had to go through a huge publicity crisis, which had to be managed by him.
While he did make a wise decision by not killing Manuel and only sending him to jail, other problems are piling up for Tommy and it seems that since Monty will definitely not take any responsibility for the troubles going on in the company, it would be Tommy who would have to take the fall.
Tommy’s son Cooper also is a person who keeps attracting trouble, which in turn requires Tommy’s help to get sorted. Cooper and Ariana’s growing affection for each other seems to be the latest on this list as Ariana’s vulnerable state and other factors could end their liking for each other in a rather disastrous state.
Landman Season 1 Episodes 1-6 can be streamed on Paramount+ with new episodes dropping weekly on every Sunday.
