Could Laura and Brendon again get back together in The Rookie? Here's how showrunner Alexi Hawley addressed the possibility

ABC’s The Rookie: Feds, a spinoff series of The Rookie, premiered in 2022, and the show stars Niecy Nash-Betts as Simone Clark, the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy. Although the procedural drama was canceled after the first season, characters introduced in the show still appear in guest roles on The Rookie.

Lately, the seemingly growing bond between Britt Robertson’s Laura Stensen and Kevin Zegers' Brendon Acres has caught the eyes of fans, who want to see the duo get together in The Rookie. Showrunner Alexi Hawley spoke to ScreenRant about his wish to bring the duo together. He stated:

"Down the road, for sure, I'd like to see them together again. Some of it is literally just about availability and stuff like that."

Robertson’s Laura was introduced in The Rookie: Feds as Brendon’s training agent. Fans loved the chemistry that their contrasting personalities triggered, and wanted to see more of them together. Fortunately, in the Season 6 finale, both the fan-favorite characters appeared on The Rookie.

This gave the audience the chance to see see more of the duo's chemistry, with the probability of them becoming a couple. Showrunner Alexi Hawley also talked about bringing them together in the series. He said:

"We've had Felix back, we've had Antoinette and him back as well. We just haven't managed to land the right story with the right availability to get them back together. But I always really liked them."

Although the action-packed finale didn’t have enough space to add personal dynamics between the characters, fans can be hopeful of seeing their beloved characters back together.

More about Laura and Brendon’s story in The Rookie franchise

When Robertson and Zegers' characters were introduced, their story seemed similar to another slow-burning love story introduced in The Rookie — that of Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford, which is a favorite of franchise fans. Bradford was introduced as Lucy’s training agent, and after five seasons of teasing, they finally got together. Although the relationship did not survive, they are still among the show's favorite couples.

Laura was also introduced as Brendon’s training agent and they might have followed Bradford and Chen’s relationship, but ABC cancelled the show after just one season.

However, after the showrunner’s statement regarding the future of the characters, we might be able to see the characters get back together on screen in future episodes of The Rookie.
