Fans of The White Lotus were treated to an exciting teaser of the upcoming third season on 16th December. The White Lotus Season 3 is set in Thailand and brings in new characters to The White Lotus Resort. Fans are excited to see the character of Belinda Lindsey played by Natasha Rothwell, who was last seen in the first season of The White Lotus. However, fans have one question after seeing The White Lotus Season 3 teaser. "Will Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge's character) be back?"
Who will be Jennifer Coolidge playing in White Lotus Season 3 if she were to appear in it?
The simple answer to the question above is most probably no. That's because Collidge's Tanya died in the last episode of the second season by drowning. However, it is still possible that her character will be referenced in The White Lotus Season 3 either in a flashback or even in the form of a recording. But even if she isn't physically appearing in the latest season Tanya will probably be referenced by the characters, and most possibly by Natasha Rothwell's Belinda.
Who is Tanya McQuoid?
When Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya was introduced back in the first season, she was a rich heiress, who was visiting the resort searching for some peace following her mother's death. Over the course of the first season, Tanya surprisingly forms meaningful connections with other characters like spa manager Belinda Lindsey and Greg Hunt. She tries to foster a professional relationship with Belinda by offering a prospective business wellness business. However, Tanya later backs out of this potential business but does leave with Belinda a considerable sum of cash.
Conversely, Tanya forms a personal relationship with Greg despite knowing about his terminal illness. However, it is revealed in the second season that Greg had nefarious plans to impress and marry Tanya. While on a yacht, Tanya finds out about Greg's plan to inherit her wealth, and she tries to escape his clutches. While escaping from the yacht during the season 2 finale, she slips and drowns in the sea after hitting her head on a dinghy, supposedly concluding the character's time in the show.
Is Tanya McQuoid actually dead or is she appearing in White Lotus Season 3?
Despite the grisly end, fans have been speculating for the past two years that Tanya McQuoid isn’t really dead, and will return in The White Lotus season 3. However, in a December 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Coolidge talked about the reactions to her character's death in the show. She said:
“There’s all kinds of reactions to it. There was actually more than two people who thought it was like some sort of dream. They thought it was a dream even though I was in a body bag. They somehow thought it was all in Tanya’s head or whatever. They didn’t get that I was dead dead, forever. Dead in every sense.”
In the same interview, she further added:
“Mike and I had a talk about it. Mike was like, ‘I’m killing you off.’ He said that to me very early on, he said, ‘You’re not going to make it, Jennifer.'”
Therefore, for now, it looks like Tanya McQuoid will not appear in the upcoming third season.
