SNL's Bowen Yang, in his April 17, 2025, interview with ExtraTV, shared his thoughts on the recent portrayal of Ami Lou Wood and her reaction to the skit. Yang was there to promote his upcoming movie, The Wedding Banquet, with his co-stars.
During his interview with ExtraTV, the host, Azia Celestino, mentioned Aimee Lou Wood's reaction to her recent portrayal on SNL. She was referring to the Saturday Night Live Season 50 Episode 18's segment The White Potus, where Sarah Sherman played Aimee Lou's The White Lotus character, Chelsea. Aimee Lou Wood stated that her character portrayal on SNL was "mean" and "unfunny."
Referring to Aimee Lou Wood's reaction, Bowen Yang said:
"Yeah. Whatever...however she reacted to that sketch is completely valid. With parody, you kind of forget the sort of human emotional cost that it sort of extols on someone. Everyone at SNL is just a fan of the show, obviously, a fan of her. We just think that she should be so proud of the work that she put into that, into the season."
SNL star Bowen Yang chimes in on Aimee Lou Wood's reaction to her character's recent portrayal on the show
Bowen Yang recently sat for an interview with Extra TV on April 18, 2025. The host asked him about Aimee Lou Wood's recent reaction to her portrayal on Saturday Night Live. He said it was "completely valid."
He said that everyone at SNL is a fan of the show (The White Lotus) and also a fan of Aimee Lou Wood. He noted that she should be "proud" of her work and everything she has done for the show.
He added:
"I mean, it was just watercooler television again that we desperately have a craving for. And so, I feel like it's, it's this thing that we tend to forget sometimes, and this is a reminder, and it seems like she has spoken to people at the show about it, and that hopefully there's, there's room to sort of move on from it."
Further, Bowen Yang said that such reminders "every now and then" are important to have. The reason, he stated, was that sometimes "parody" can go "far." For that, he mentioned that comedians could take the accountability, instead of:
"Banging our foot and saying that like, we should be allowed to say whatever we want, because that's just culture. It's not like, it's not PC or work culture. It's just culture."
Fans must remember that the latest Saturday Night Live Episode 18 aired on April 13, 2025. One of the segments featured was The White Potus, which featured multiple artists.
