Much like the ending of season 1 of Colin From Accounts, this time as well, fans are left hanging in suspense about what the fate of the couple might be. The couple is a perfect match, completely different from one another yet also completing each other, being like the same halves of a larger whole.
The reason why the future of the couple is in the grey area is that Gordon is hesitant to commit and Ashley is afraid of vulnerability. The two have been struggling with work while managing to care for Colin.
