Cobra Kai finally ended after running for six seasons. Produced as a sequel to The Karate Movies, the show was extremely well received and proved how Cobra Kai never really dies.
While the finale gave all the characters well-rounded endings, the twist was not anticipated by a lot of fans. Moreover, the fact that there was no final showdown between Johnny and Daniel also disappointed certain fans though the creators had a perfectly valid reason for choosing not to show the rematch.
Now, with the ending of Cobra Kai, let us now explore what creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald had to say about the final twist of the show.
Jon Hurwitz has talked about leaving out the Terry Silver moment from Cobra Kai finale
After Cobra Kai concludes, creator Jon Hurwitz took to the social media platform X to reveal that the high-octane finale of the show had left out a section focusing on Terry Silver.
Revealed on the same platform, it was mentioned that initially, the creators had planned to show how the Valley Monthly magazine was speculating various theories about the disappearance of Silver.
Since the magazine was an invaluable gift from Eric Bates, the prop master of Cobra Kai, makers decided to keep a picture of it on camera, though it was not supposed to be featured in the show.
Hurwitz’s post on X, featured the picture of the magazine, and the caption mentioned,
“Yes, Cobra Kai Never Dies and no, we didn’t show the bodies, so I suppose there’s no proof that both men are dead. But for the here and now, let’s live in a world where there’s actual legitimate karate peacetime in the Valley, because that’s the story we intended and it feels so good!”
His words show the emotional involvement that the team had with the prop. While the audience is well aware of the fact that John Kreese and Silver are very likely to be dead because of what happened in the second last episode, no bodies were shown, which meant that there was no visual proof of their deaths.
More about Cobra Kai
After the conclusion of Cobra Kai, the makers have already started talking about possible spin-offs. Given the kind of love that Cobra Kai has received, it is only natural for the makers to think about expanding the universe.
The show has also shown that there will always be room for new stories within the Karate Kid franchise. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creators revealed that they might have already thought about a spin-off focusing on the characters of Demetri and Hawk.
In an interview with Variety, Heald talked about the show’s ending, saying,
“This is the ending we wanted to build up to. That’s not to say every word of dialogue and every character who’s on screen for the last episode was firmly in our heads — that would be insane to keep that much story in there — but in terms of the the big story beats, themes, moments, the way that Johnny lands, the way Daniel resolves, all those big feelings, we had that plan in our heads.”
He further added,
“We didn’t want the plane to take off without knowing how we were going to land it. We could not have foreseen the Sekai Taikai and all its twists and turns, but we’re thrilled that we got the chance to deliver our goals, which was to end this the way that we always intended.”
While his words show that they have reached the ending that they wished, now it remains to be seen when or how the spin-offs of Cobra Kai work out.
Cobra Kai can be streamed on Netflix.
