While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: The Next Generation are two different sagas entirely and transpire in different sets of circumstances, there's one unifying factor that connects them both.
Captain Christopher Pike from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation are two markedly different characters; however, both of them share an avid love for horseback horseriding and even preserve their own saddles onboard the Enterprise while navigating through the ups and downs of the Milky Way galaxy.
Here's everything that we know.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Captain Pike's love for his saddle explaine
Captain Pike equals the two other well-known captains of the saga, i.e., Picard and Kirk. All three of them are excellent masters of their ships and have their own hobbies that they indulge in during their free time. Pike often spends time at this cabin in Montana while being away from his responsibilities on board the Enterprise. At the Bear Creek ranch, Pike owned several horses, and therefore his love for his saddle is easily explained. This was reiterated when, in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season two, Ensign Brad Boimler stumbled upon Pike's saddle in his ready room.
Similarly, Picard is fond of horse riding as well and is mindful of his saddle onboard the ship at all times. This was illustrated in the eighteenth episode of TNG season six when he took out the saddle to give it a run after learning of the fact that the locals knew how to ride. Later, when Counselor Deanna Troi posed a question about the saddle's relevance, Picard replied that he had it since it might come in handy at some point.
Ansom Mount opens up about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Anson Mount has been successfully portraying the character of Captain Christopher Pike on the Paramount+ show and appeared for an exclusive interview with GoldDerby last year following the show's sophomore season's debut. He remarked,
"You could have knocked us over with a feather. We were all pretty sure that we had something with Season 1. The response was incredible. And that has continued! It was an honor to go to the Critics Choice Awards this year. We did not expect that at all. Wow, people are actually watching and enjoying what we're what we're doing. We're feeling even more emboldened."
Mount then went on to reveal the thorough creative process that went on behind the success of the second season:
"We decided to see how far we could push some things, and this is also when we really realized that we were getting a lot of mileage out of having conversations about genre and what worlds would make us excited, I remember when we were when we were building up to doing the musical episode, that was the second to last episode of the season, when traditionally people are at their most exhausted. I remember we had to first of all record the album during episode eight, on the weekends. There's no time to do choreography other than after work or on the weekends."
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is exclusively available on Paramount+.
