Calling all Jason Momoa fans! Apple TV+ has officially revealed the first sneak peek of its upcoming series, Chief of War, with the Aquaman star taking center stage.
Notably, Jason Momoa is not only the top-billed cast member of the period drama. He is also working as the co-creator, writer, and executive producer for this Apple TV+ series, which has a release date of August 1, 2025.
During an interview last year, Momoa teased about his show:
"I cannot wait for the Hawaiian people to see it. It’s something that we’ve seen only in pictures. So it’s kind of a pinch me [moment] every day when you put the regalia the uniform on and you’re looking at one another and go ‘I only saw these in paintings.’ So it’s a pretty beautiful thing for Hawaiian people to show them that."
So, the countdown has begun since four months are remaining until the grand premiere. Chief of War is based on actual historical events and centers on the Hawaiian Islands at a pivotal moment in history.
The show is centered around Ka'iana's story, a native warrior played by Momoa who finds himself caught in the process of unifying the islands as one country. What's difficult in his pursuit is that he had to ensure this right before Western colonization set in at the close of the 18th century.
Chief of War promises to present this major historical period through the lens of the indigenous people of Hawai‘i, something rarely seen in mainstream media. This nine-part drama is "A passion project for creators Momoa and Thomas Pa‘a Sibbett, who share native Hawaiian heritage," which will contribute to the show's authenticity.
