Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 16 was Detective Kim Burgess' shining hour as she proved her observational skills and memory, which she used to solve a case at a nearby diner.

After Burgess frequented the diner, she became accustomed to all the faces and even knew some of the diner's regular customers and staff. She identified one of the victims as Gabriel Basco, a man who was involved with a gang and owed them money. She also remembered that Basco met with a strange man in a car with a license plate starting with DB.

This helped her team trace the man, Garcia, but he had no motive to plan the shooting, as Basco cleared all his debt. However, he did describe a strange man with a gun, whom he saw on the night of the shooting.

Burgess again proved her prowess in Chicago P.D. by matching a regular customer, Neal, to Gracia's description. She recalled how Neal was dealing with the grief of his wife's death and visited the diner daily to have her favorite meal.

Her team closes in on Neal, who is found bleeding at his house, but Burgess realises that Neal is not their suspect but a witness to the diner shooting. She asks him questions about the night, and again, through her memory and Neal's testimony, gets to the actual shooter.

She remembers a woman, Marge, who frequented the diner and discussed her money problems with the waiter. She also revealed that her husband, Jeff, is currently jobless and has even robbed a place. But Marge anonymously reported him to the police, which enraged Jeff, and he went after his wife to kill her in the diner for snitching him to the cops.

Burgess pieces together the events of the night in Chicago P.D., Episode 16, and reveals that Jeff went after her wife at the diner and shot her dead. He then went after everyone present at the diner because they were eyewitnesses, and the scene changed into a mass shooting. Neal managed to escape and gave this testimony.

Burgess and her team finally close in on Jeff, and she takes a dead shot. Jeff dies during a confrontational shootout, thus providing justice to Marge and the other victims who lost their lives at the diner.

Burgess realizes the dangers of frequenting a particular place, so she books a hotel room for her and Adam for the weekend.
