What happened in Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 13?

In the previous episode of the show, Street Jesus, Atwater got involved in a dangerous undercover mission to track down the source of pink cocaine. Voight sent the Intelligence team to investigate the case, with Atwater as their leader as he had connections in the community.

With CeCe’s help, Atwater met a dealer, who was shot and killed before he could give out any useful information. The case became more complicated when Burgess saw a car speeding through a red light. Atwater recognized a gold bracelet on the passenger and realized it belonged to his old friend, Hype.

When Atwater confronted Hype, he revealed that the driver was a man named Luther Ward. Hype did not want to get involved, and hence Atwater decided to protect him and kept his name from Voight. However, Ruzek warned him it was a bad idea.

Atwater tried to handle the situation by convincing Luther to pay money to the deceased drug dealer's family. But Luther instead called for backup, which led to a shootout. Ruzek then forced him to tell Voight everything.

To gather evidence, Atwater convinced Hype to wear a wire and talk to Luther at his son’s birthday party. However, Luther figured the plan out and shot Hype in front of the police.

Luther was arrested, but Atwater was left struggling with guilt as he lost his friend. Meanwhile, Voight made sure Hype’s name stayed out of police reports to protect his reputation.
