NBC's Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18 was a suspenseful ride, just as the promo had teased. The episode was an intense one, with the career of a firefighter in jeopardy.

The eighteenth and latest episode starts with Christopher Herrmann in a hospital waiting room, and it is soon established that one of their own was critically injured while Firehouse 51 was attending to a fire.

While the episode builds suspense about who the injured firefighter is, Boden returns to Firehouse 51, and announces that the Commissioner has ordered an investigation to locate the firefighters responsible for the fiasco that happened the night before.

After much suspense, it is revealed that the injured firefighter was none other than Damon, Severide's brother, who was picking up some extra shifts.

While he pulls through in the episode's final moments, the doctors reveal that he has suffered internal bleeding and has inhaled a lot of smoke in his lungs. It is hinted that Damon's firefighting career might be over in Chicago Fire.

Here is the complete recap of Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18.

Firehouse 51 breaks down the accident scene to Boden in Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18

Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18 kept enough intrigue over which firefighter was critically injured during the fire scene that 'went south.' The audience and Boden were given vital clues to guess which firefighter was fighting for his life in the hospital.

Chief Pascal starts off by telling Boden how Firehouse 51 has been called in to rescue the Marshall family, two parents and two children, and how the scene was already chaotic. When they arrive, one of the teenage boys jumps from the second-storey building, asking the team to rescue his parents and infant brother.

Severide and Cruz are able to rescue the parents, but the baby was sleeping in his crib on the second floor. Since the fire has spread massively, Severide needs more hands on deck. Herrmann sends Damon and Clarence in, and Carver finally locates the baby and gives him to Kidd, who takes him to an ambulance.

Pascal explains that the fire was spreading fast, and orders his team to evacuate rather than focus on controlling it.

Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 18 finally reveals which firefighter was injured

After receiving Pascal's orders, Herrmann asks his team to evacuate. As he tells Boden, he can count six firefighters coming out of the building. Since Herrmann counted six firefighters entering the house, he thought everybody was out.

However, while the fire was raging, Carver had taken a ladder to save Clarence from falling and had gotten out with the team. Since Hermann did not initially count Carver, this created the confusion, and Damon was left behind. After Herrmann and the team got out, they heard the firefighter monitor, indicating somebody was left behind.

After Severide realizes it is Damon, he blames himself. After listening to all the events, Boden concludes that Firehouse 51 was not at fault, and the investigation is concluded.

Severide and Pascal blamed themselves for leaving Damon behind, and it is hinted that his firefighting career might be over for now. While the doctors suggested some tests to see if his lungs are functioning properly, there is a possibility that Damon might never return to work as a firefighter.
