A quick recap of what happened in Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 9
Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 9 came out yesterday on NBC, and centers around Joe Cruz, as he faces constant threats from a man named Junior Polanco. Turns out that Junior is the cousin of Flaco, the gangster whom Joe Cruz didn't save from dying despite having the chance.
This goes back to Season 1 when Joe Cruz let the gangster die, thinking he deserves that type of end. Little did Cruz know that his cousin would once return and cause trouble in his life.
Junior asked the firefighter to help him in his illegal business or else he would expose his action to his co-workers and family. Considering his tough situation, Cruz seems to have agreed to help Junior out but thankfully realizes his duty and loyalty to the firehouse.
As a result, Joe Cruz didn't help Junior and got into a confrontation that resulted in Polanco's death, while Cruz got shot in his hand. However, this doesn't end here. While Joe Cruz managed to escape, his fingerprints and blood stains might prove his involvement.

"The team responds to a crisis at a community centre; Severide is forced to investigate one of his own squad members; Kidd helps a teacher going through a post-incident spin-out."
Additionally, Chief Pascal was suspicious of Cruz's recent behavior and his fingerprints and blood at the crime scene in Episode 9 might also intensify his struggle. It might be possible that Severide is asked to look into Joe Cruz, as he's the one who recently got caught in his past.
