What is Carême all about?

As mentioned earlier, the show will chronicle the intriguing life of the first celebrity chef, Marie-Antoine Carême, who rose to the ranks of power from humble beginnings and attracted the patronage of Napoleon himself. The official synopsis of the show reads:

"In Napoleon's Europe, Antonin Carême, an orphan with exceptional talent, dreams of becoming the world's most famous chef and establishing Gastronomy as a new art form. But to do so, he has to make a pact with the devil and become a spy in the service of a Machiavellian man who has elevated politics to an art form: Talleyrand. Based on a true story, Carême takes us into a world where the misery and harshness of kitchens rub shoulders with the opulence of mansions, where true feelings are damaged by pretense, and where manipulation reigns supreme. Determined to escape poverty and fulfill his dream, Carême can have it all - women, money, glory - but at what price: love? His life? His soul?"

Voisin open up about Carême

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Variety magazine, leading man Benjami Voisin opened up about his experience of working on the Apple TV+ show. Speaking about the references for the character of the celebrity chef, Voisin revealed:

"We spent hours looking at photos of Lenny Kravitz and Mick Jagger. With costume designer Pierre-Jean Larroque, we thought it would be great to bring that sexy, liberated feeling to his outfits, to bring rock’n’roll. What could be more beautiful from making a period series yet talking about people who could live today?"

The show drops exclusively on Apple TV+ on April 30.
