Prime Video released an all-new procedural drama On Call, coming from the maker of fan-favorite shows like Chicago P.D., Law & Order, and more. It introduces viewers to a unique duo, a veteran officer and a rookie encountering dangerous and complex situations. As the duo takes on their duty, they navigate the ever-changing landscape of law enforcement and handle incidents including domestic disputes, mental health crises, and gang-related violence.

The police procedural has eight episodes and focuses on the duo responding to calls during their shifts. However, the drama doesn't seem to have concluded with season 1 due to the cliffhanger in the last episode and the hopeful comments from Tim Walsh, who expressed hope to resolve the cliffhanger.

So does that mean the series is likely to return? At the time of this article's writing, On Call has not officially been greenlit for a second season. Nonetheless, in a recent interview with TV Insider, Tim Walsh, Troian Bellisario, and Elliot Wolf expressed their enthusiasm by chiming in on the possible story arcs likely to be explored in On Call Season 2.

The simple answer to this question is that the fate of Prime Video's On Call is currently hanging in the balance. Despite the cliffhanger, the streamer has yet to announce if they plan to greenlight the show or end it with just a season.

However, fans shouldn't lose hope as Tim Walsh, Elliot Wolf, and Troian Bellisario sat in an interview with TV Insider, and expressed enthusiasm about returning for another season. Executive producer and co-creator Walsh said:

"We left some threads. The fentanyl trade that Smokey was involved in, that’s still out there hanging out there for us to take. "

He continued:

"And then just all really the character stuff, quite honestly, that we want to explore more deeply in Season 2. That’s really the focal point, is the two leads."

Walsh shed light on the fentanyl trade storyline and explained that they wish to explore how the characters addressed this crisis in a potential On Call Season 2. The second season will likely dive deep into Harmon and Diaz’s relationship as they often find themselves at odds.

On Call is filled with notable confrontations and twists, leaving viewers curious about what might happen next. One of the officers is shot dead by a few gang members, and this is how the show begins.

Throughout the episodes, the duo is seen managing their hectic job, which often tests their abilities and determination. One of the major surprises comes when Harmon is denied a position she had been hoping for.

What's even more staling is that the person responsible for this turns out to be Bishop and not the expected Lasman. Bishop's decision stems from her desire for justice following stems from her desire for justice murder in episode 1.

While this decision has put Harmon and her rookie's career at risk, she has also realized that the system cannot be fully trusted. This also brought her closer to Lasman as the two didn't get along well in the early episodes.

On Call Season 1 finale highlights the conflicting definitions of justice for Bishop and Harmon, and how the duo's relationship evolved. Diaz’s repeated disregard for orders resulted in Harmon sending him back to his probation period, which felt like a personal attack on Diaz. However, he realized that it was for good, and Harmon's decision was out of concern.

Season 1 has impressively wrapped up major plots, except for the fentanyl trade storyline, which will likely be addressed on On Call Season 2, should the show proceed with a second season. Prime Video has dropped all eight episodes of On Call Season 1.
