Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a critically acclaimed and much-loved series that has broken new ground when it comes to representations of LGBTQ+ and racial diversity. It also includes topics about gender and is one of the most progressive shows in modern times. Centered around the 99th precinct, the show focuses on a group of quirky detectives as they solve cases and form bonds.

While most of them are dedicated, there are also some who lack. It would therefore be interesting to rank these detectives based on how perfectly they would handle a case in real life. Here’s a fun list about Brooklyn Nine-Nine cops as real-life officers, ranked on the basis of who would crack under pressure first and who would stay till the end to solve the case.

9. Michael Hitchcock

Played by Dirk Blocker, Michael Hitchcock from Brooklyn Nine-Nine is known for his laziness and sleaziness. He does not bother himself about the regular goings-on that happen at the 99th precinct and will always be seen chomping down on a Cheeto. The show has sometimes hinted that the nonchalant officer also has some hidden talent and sleuthing properties, but Hitchcock rarely uses his detective abilities. Partnered with his similar best friend, Norm Scully, Hitchcock is happy to reign over his corner office and gets by at his work through minimal effort. He is therefore an officer from the show who would most probably crack under all the pressure in real life.

8. Norm Scully

The best friend of Michael Hitchcock, with whom he has solved cases over the years, if there were many, is Norm Scully from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He is just like his friend, but he does control his carnal emotions better and therefore fares a bit better than his partner. Played by Joel McKinnon Miller, Scully is apathetic like his best friend and isn’t liked by most of the people in the precinct. When the two combine, they represent the laziest team in the 99th precinct. Even though Scully has the ability to pick up on social cues and used to be a decent detective, as hinted on the show, he now finds comfort in laziness and is therefore the next cop who would buckle under real-life pressure.

7. Charles Boyle

Played by Joe Lo Truglio, Charles Boyle from Brooklyn Nine-Nine comes at the seventh position because even though he is a dedicated detective, he also has his weaknesses, which make him lag in front of his other, more capable colleagues. Boyle has a knack for including inappropriate jokes in any conversation and is more interested in knowing about his colleagues’ personal lives. His dedication is also marred by the fact that he is more interested in being in the good books of Jake than focusing on the case. While he is a great detective and likes to pursue a case with full force, especially if he is partnered with Jake, he does stay away from more seedy operations and loves to go back to his favorite pastime—putting his nose into his friends’ personal lives. He is therefore someone who might pursue a real-life case for a bit but would also crack from more pressure.

6. Adrien Pimento

The quirky and eccentric Adrien Pimento from Brooklyn Nine-Nine always likes to make his presence known. Many viewers might rank him higher than Charles Boyle, who is a stereotypically more balanced detective due to that factor. But the fact is that even though Adrien likes to play bizarre tricks, he is actually a talented detective and puts his full force into a case—something that Boyle lacks after a certain point. Played by Jason Mantzoukas, Pimento also gets points for being the undercover cop inside the mob for many years, which proves his ability and resilience to work on hard cases. While years of dangerous work have had effects on his psyche, with methods of work that tiptoe the line of brilliance and insanity, he is hyperactively dedicated to any case that he takes upon himself. While some of his cases might have resulted in destruction and carnage, he is a dedicated officer nonetheless and would not buckle under real-life pressure.

5. Terry Jeffords

Each and every cop in Brooklyn Nine-Nine has his or her quirks, and even dedicated police officers like Terry Jeffords are known for their antics. However, when the time comes to work, he does put in all the work that is needed. Played by Terry Crews, Captain Terrence Vincent Jeffords starts off as a sergeant and gets promoted to the rank of lieutenant as the series progresses. This promotion shows that he is an able officer. Not only is Jeffords a dedicated detective, but he is also shown to be a complete family man. He is devoted to his wife and his daughters and has a kind heart. Jeffords is wise and empathetic and feels responsible for his crew, leading them like a good leader in times of trouble. Further, even Captain Raymond Holt considers him a capable officer and often gives him charge over difficult situations. When other detectives need advice, they frequently go to Jeffords for help. Therefore, he is one police officer who would not crack under pressure even in real life.

4. Rosa Diaz

Ferocious and tenacious, Rosa Diaz is the resident battle expert in the 99th precinct of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and has a no-nonsense attitude that makes her colleagues a bit scared of her. Played by Stephanie Beatriz, she represents the LGBTQ+ and the Latina community in the show and was a detective. However, after the Black Lives Matter protests, she leaves and becomes a private investigator to help victims of police brutality. While she is on the show, she is also known for her sharp-tongued persona and her ability to self-start and work towards a case. Tough and intimidating, she also has a heart of gold as she fiercely protects the people whom she cares about. The best part about her is that she never gives up and pursues a case relentlessly, even if it means that she has to get her hands dirty. Her grit and resilience make her acquire the number four spot on this list, as it is a surety that even in real life, Diaz would never buckle under pressure and instead, solve the case victoriously.

3. Amy Santiago

Played by Melissa Fumero, Amy Santiago from Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the most able and dedicated officers and the resident perfectionist in the precinct. Her hard work knows no bounds, and she is even obsessive about the cases she handles. Her willpower is so great that even if she is not the most muscular or smartest person in the room, she has the ability to outwit others due to her determination and intelligence. Known as Amelia Santiago, she begins the show as a detective and gets promoted throughout the entirety of the show in leaps and bounds. She is promoted to the rank of sergeant, then to the rank of the commander of the Uniformed Officers, and finally becomes the chief. Her steady growth showcases her dedication and ability to become a good police officer. As she got promoted, Amy also showcased her leadership qualities and helped other officers in her team. Thorough, innovative, and having a brilliant work ethic, Amy is the perfect police officer one can hope for in real life. She would therefore be the best detective on a hard case even in actual life.

2. Jake Peralta

Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the chief protagonists of the show and features a duality. While he is a brilliantly intelligent detective and determined and ambitious, he also has a goofy personality that revels in pop culture knowledge, especially about his favorite Die Hard movies. Played by Andy Samberg, Jacob Jeffrey Peralta is known for hosting most of the fun games and shenanigans at the 99th precinct and has a zealous and competitive nature. While he loves to host competitions and revels in pop culture knowledge, he also has a dedicated side to him. Peralta always takes his cases seriously and looks up to Captain Holt as a mentor and father figure. While Peralta was a bit immature and cocky in the earlier seasons, he worked on himself and became a respectful person. This shows his ability to learn from his seniors and improve upon himself. He is one of the sharpest detectives and can see connections when others cannot. Innately talented and determined, Peralta is one detective who would take a real-life case head-on.

1. Raymond Holt

Played by Andre Braugher, Captain Raymond Jacob Holt is one of the most important characters in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Not only does he have years of groundwork experience under his belt—known for his legendary status as a former detective who could tackle terrorists, serial killers, and gangsters—but he is also known for his leadership qualities and his ability to run a tight ship at the precinct. The first openly gay Black police captain, Holt, is promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police Reform in the final season. While he has a stoic nature and does not show emotions easily, he is always there for the people he cares about and is a father figure to Jake and Amy. While his days of on-the-ground work are over, he is still the sharpest of them all and has all the best qualities of a police officer. Talented, tenacious, and organized, he is the person everyone goes to for help and advice. Holt, therefore, is the best police officer to crack any case in real life.
