It's Boyle time! Do you remember this iconic Charles Boyle dialogue from Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Charles Boyle, the hardworking detective whose unshakable loyalty, quirkiness, love (read obsession) for food, and Jake Peralta make him one of the most unique and loved characters of the popular police procedural sitcom.

Played by Joe Lo Truglio, Charles Boyle might not be considered the most intelligent detective of the 99th precinct in New York, but he does prove his genius in several instances. While his best friend, Detective Jake Peralta, is a gifted natural genius, and Captain Raymond Holt is a disciplined intellect, Boyle outsmarts them often with his excellent observation, out-of-the-box thinking, and emotional intelligence. From helping solve impossible cases to reading people's minds, Boyle's intelligence is as versatile as his expertise in culinary techniques.

Here are 5 instances that prove Charles Boyle from Brooklyn Nine-Nine is smarter than people think.

Charles Boyle's emotional intelligence makes him a uniquely talented detective of the 99th precinct. In Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 3 Episode 3, when Genevieve Mirren-Carter, a gallery owner, is charged with fraud, everyone looks at it as an open-and-shut case — except for Boyle. He trusts his instincts that she is innocent and, instead of ignoring it as bias (even though Boyle's already smitten by her), delves deeper into the case. When Jake inquires about the case, Boyle replies,

"As a cop, I really don't think that she did it. Something's off about the case"

He contacts her incapable lawyer, goes after her ex-boyfriend, Nick, finds the stolen paintings, and with a little help from Peralta, successfully clears her name in the case. After solving the case, Peralta compliments Boyle,

"I think you're a great detective and I trusted your gut"

While Jake or Captain Holt might pursue the flashy lead, Boyle's emotional sensitivity and patience make him just as good of a detective.
