The tenth episode of Season 1 focuses on a first responder Katie, who's revealed to be dealing with chronic pain and emotional struggles. When Kate arrived at the hospital, Dr. Wolf and his team of interns worked together to find the cause of her illness and found out that it was chronic pain. Something that Dr. Wolf is aware of.

Though Dr. Wolf didn't suffer physical pain like Katie, he could understand her through his past emotional struggles. Katie's pain emerged after a shooting incident after which she didn't get proper treatment and started to self-medicate with steroids.

Dr. Wolf and his team's chemistry took center stage in episode 10, as interns Dana and Jacob also showed emotional investment in their patients. Dana connected with Katie and the two seemed to have developed a friendship.

Meanwhile, Jacob was dealing with his feelings for Ericka and realized that it was becoming complicated due to her relationship with Van. At the same time, Van and Ericka were seen treating a young lad who couldn't feel any pain. The boy's pain contrasts with Katie's, highlighting how bodies can react differently.

While treating the boy, Ericka noticed Jacob paying less attention. The episode then revealed an unexpected truth about Jacob that he wwhas mirror-touch synesthesia, which means Jacob can feel the pain of others.

The episode ended with setting up tension between Van and Ericka, as she's now aware of Van's emotional distance. Additionally, Ericka is yet to learn about Van's secret about his son which might become a key point of conflict between them.
