NBC's latest medical drama, Brilliant Minds Season 1, will soon end with just three episodes left. The show revolves around Zachary Quinto's Dr. Oliver Wolf, a dedicated and highly intelligent neurologist at Bronx General Hospital. Dr. Wolf isn't just carrying out his job but also guiding a group of young interns at the hospital.

Unlike typical medical dramas, Brilliant Minds Season 1 introduces viewers to the psychological elements while also focusing on the ailments of the patients. The show explains how psychological challenges and past traumas can take a toll on one's body.

The episodes arrive on Monday on NBC and a day later on Peacock. Last week in episode 10, "The First Responder," viewers were offered a dive into a female paramedic, Katie Rodriguez, and a 10-year-old boy Finn Kemp's medical setbacks. While Katie couldn't handle chronic pain, Finn, on the other hand, is another patient who couldn't feel any pain despite sustaining injuries. Read more to know what happened in episode 10.

As mentioned above, Katie is a paramedic who later became one of the patients at the hospital due to her chronic pain. However, before her condition took center stage in Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 10, an emergency occurred.

As seen in the opening scenes, an injured 10-year-old lad, Finn Kemp, locked himself inside a room, and his father couldn't reach him until the paramedics arrived. Since Finn wasn't opening up with the paramedic, it was necessary to gain his trust.

Katie noticed Finn's toy Camaros lying on the floor and cleverly used it to gain his trust. The toy helped Katie initiate a conversation with Finn, and she was easily able to transport him to the hospital. When Finn reached the hospital, he was looked after by Dr. Wolf and his team.

They learned that Finn has sustained several injuries throughout the years but not once felt the pain. His recurring problem puzzled Finn's father as the young boy was unable to explain his pain. Dr. Wolf and his team then made a diagnosis and found out about a rare condition.

Turned out Finn has channelopathy-associated congenital insensitivity to pain (CIPA), a rare condition that prevents feeling pain. Upon learning about his son's condition, Finn's father blamed himself for not recognizing the issue. However, Ericka calmed him down and explained that CIPA is quite rare and can be mistaken for autism.

After discovering his condition, Dr. Wolf and his team of interns leveraged Finn's toy Camaros to understand his mind and how he interacts with his surroundings. The toy played a crucial role in helping the doctors teach Finn about sensations. It was more than a toy as the Camaros acted as a bridge between Finn's intellectual abilities and the medical team's efforts to help him.

Later in Brilliant Minds episode 10, Dr. Wolf uses naloxone, a drug, to turn on Finn's pain receptors. It was an experiment, as Dr Wolf wasn't sure if the drug would work. Remarkably, the experiment worked but only temporarily. Finn felt pain for the first time, and it gave everyone hope that he could be treated.

While Finn's case got a little better in Brilliant Minds Season 1, episode 10, Katie's health crisis became a matter of concern. Earlier, she seemed physically drained and brushed off her symptoms as dehydration. Dr. Wolf advised her to undergo tests, but Katie didn't pay attention and continued her work.

Later, in Brilliant Minds episode 10, Katie's condition worsened, and she eventually collapsed in the hospital. Tests revealed Katie has meningitis caused by listeria contracted from a former patient. However, this wasn't all.

A hidden truth about Katie came out: she has been using self-prescribing steroids to reduce her chronic pain from an old gunshot wound. Those steroids didn't just weened Katie's immune system but also caused infections. She later confessed to hiding her condition because the adrenaline rush during her work helped her reduce the pain.

Since Dr. Wolf had faced challenges in his past, he could understand Katie's struggle. He decided to treat Katie without reporting her, as her disease requires compassion and understanding in Brilliant Minds.
