A hidden romance is unfolding in Tell Me Lies Season 2, and fans don’t seem to be thrilled about it. Catherine Missal's Bree has been betrayed by her former lover Evan, and now she's pursuing a secret relationship with Baird College professor Oliver, played by actor Tom Ellis.
Even though Bree has been through a lot and is still vulnerable, fans and viewers struggle to justify her new relationship with the older professor. Not only that, but Oliver is a happily married man, and Bree is well aware of this. Following this budding romance, here’s what a fan wrote on Reddit:
While many seem to dislike Bree for her romantic bond with Oliver, other fans believe the professor is the villain, taking advantage of Bree's vulnerability. User @Euphoricgalz wrote:
"The professor does know better but he is preying on a young girl that he sees as impressionable bc he can tell she is a bit insecure and vulnerable. I think he played her into sleeping w him by making her believe it was HER idea and the SHE came to him. He knows what’s he’s doing."
Meanwhile, User @Hopeful_Reporter6731 believes Bree is old enough to understand what she's doing and if her decisions will hurt others:
User @Impossible-Will-8414 also shared their opinion over this new relationship Bree is enjoying and wrote:
"The affair is gross and SO incredibly cliche, and Bree is just extremely annoying in this storyline."

Another user on Reddit expressed disappointment, suggesting a better storyline for Bree:
The internet is riddled with mixed reviews on Bree and Oliver's growing closeness in Tell Me Lies Season 2, with many disliking this pair due to their age gap and Oliver’s marriage. Meanwhile, others seem to blame Bree's current situation, as she is still suffering from heartbreak.
While Tell Me Lies mainly focuses on the life decisions of Lucy Albright, it’s incomplete without characters like Bree, Diana, Pippa, and other supporting figures. Season 2 has arrived on the streamer, and Lucy is still navigating challenges after breaking up with Stephen.
Tell Me Lies star talks about Bree's secret affair with Professor Oliver
Bree and Oliver's new secret love affair is the hot topic of discussion about Tell Me Lies, as it has caught fans' attention and sparked mixed reviews. Actress Catherine Missal, who has been playing Bree since the first season, shed light on her on-screen character.
In an interview with TV Insider, Missal shared that Bree is confused after learning Evan cheated on her. She’s emotionally struggling with the pain and thinks Oliver might bring her the love she’s looking for. The actress said:
"I think she’s just very misunderstood, and it’s kind of the perfect storm... she thinks that it’s amazing that this older, educated man is interested in her, and it’s really sad. It’s really heartbreaking."
Missal acknowledged the outcome of having an affair with Oliver, as it would ultimately break Bree's heart for the second time. Bree cannot see how Oliver is cheating on his beloved wife and might cheat on anyone he dates.
Actor Tom Ellis, who plays Oliver in Tell Me Lies, also discussed this new controversial romance at Baird College. He describes Oliver as "manipulative" and suggests that he makes Bree believe they are both making the right decisions when he's the only one controlling the current situation.
What is happening in Tell Me Lies Season 2 on Hulu?
By now, every fan must have learned how manipulative Stephen is when it comes to controlling people and situations. He’s toxic, and now it’s going to affect Diana more than Lucy.
Meanwhile, Lucy continues to make poor decisions. She is currently involved with a new guy, Leo (played by Thomas Doherty), who might show her what a healthy relationship looks like. However, Lucy hasn’t completely recovered from her dramatic breakup seen in Tell Me Lies Season 1, and her fear of losing Leo might make her the toxic partner in this new relationship.
Hulu has released four episodes of Tell Me Lies Season 2, and there’s more drama to come. The upcoming episodes will reveal the aftermath of the relationship with a professor and new dynamics between the characters.
Tell Me Lies Season 2 is streaming on Hulu.
