Boston Blue: Can Danny and Baez get together in the Blue Bloods spin-off? Possible return of Marisa Ramirez explored

CBS has announced a franchise extension and spin-off of Blue Bloods called Boston Blue, featuring Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan. Previously, in Blue Bloods, fans loved the equation between Danny and Detective Maria Baez, and were eager to know what happens to them after their pizza date in the finale. However, CBS has not confirmed the return of Marisa Ramirez as Baez in Boston Blue.

A possible romance between Danny and Baez in Boston Blue also remains questionable. Wahlberg opened up about Danny and Baez's future. He explained that the closure was not necessarily as a couple, but as partners who had evolved together. During an interview with Variety, Wahlberg said:

"It was important to Kevin Wade to not have every partnership turn into a relationship. And I respected that, and I agreed with it. I think it was just probably important for me personally that Danny grows."

The Boston Blue lead actor continued:

"As for the audience started sort of clamoring for a relationship with Danny and Baez, I thought, it's more important for them to grow and for her to start making an impact on him, and for him to really respect her in a way that he hasn't always respected certain people in the show."

While CBS has confirmed the return of Wahlberg as Danny, Ramirez's involvement remains unclear. Even though Danny's new story will now shift to Boston, many fans are hopeful for the continuation of the Danny-Baez partnership.

After 14 successful seasons, Blue Bloods concluded with a heartfelt finale on December 13, 2024. Currently, out of the regular cast of Blue Bloods, only Donnie Walberg has been roped in to play Danny Reagan in the new installment.

Will Marisa Ramirez be a part of the spin-off Boston Blue?

The romantic tension between Danny and Baez was one of the highlights of Blue Bloods. For years, fans waited for the possibility of a relationship between the two evolving beyond their professional partnership. It was only in the finale episode that Danny asked Baez out after he sought advice from his grandfather Henry.

However, it appears from Wahlberg's interview with Variety that we might not be able to witness any romance between Danny and Baez in the upcoming spin-off. With the introduction of a new character, Detective Lena Peters, in in Boston Blue, the possibility of Danny- Beaz partnership seem impossible.

However, Marisa Ramirez who plays Detective Maria Baez might be in a cameo in Boston Blue where the Boston and New York police departments might work together on a case. She might appear in an episode or two, aiding Danny in solving challenging cases, much like in Blue Bloods. Moreover, it seems quite unusual for Beaz to leave her job in New York behind and join Danny in Boston.

Even though her chances of return remain bleak, it would be good to see a beloved character return and offer the viewers a Danny-Beaz partnership moment.

Boston Blue: A new journey for Danny Reagan

Created by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, Boston Blue is a spin-off of Blue Bloods that will deal with the life of Danny Reagan. Danny's character moves to a new city, Boston, and will now serve the Boston Police Department. However, the essence of Danny's character will remain the same — deeply rooted in family duty.

The show will also introduce Danny's new partner Detective Lena Peters, who is the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. Although Ramirez's casting as Beaz has not been confirmed for Blue Bloods, we might get to see guest appearances of the Blue Bloods members as New York is in proximity to Boston.
