Bosch: Legacy resolved most of its storylines in the penultimate episode 9, titled Badlands, with the capture and death of Finbar McShane, leaving the finale to solve one of Bosch’s cold cases that still mattered to him.

The final episode of Bosch: Legacy season 3, titled Dig Down, recounts the events of our veteran detective, now a private investigator, helping the LAPD detective, Renee Ballard, in solving the cold case named The Flower Girls, which was one of Bosch’s unsolved cases when he was an LAPD detective.

With some help from his daughter, Maddie, after Harry talks about the case, Ballard and Harry Bosch finally track down the serial killer and let Ballard take him into custody without killing him, just like he promised Maddie.

Detective Ballard approaches Bosch while investigating a cold case in Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale

In the finale of Bosch: Legacy, LAPD detective Renee Ballard follows Harry Bosch as he gets in his car to go back home after having dinner with his daughter, Maddie Bosch. Harry realizes he is being followed and calls Mo to check who it was.

After taking a couple of pictures and running the number plate, he is unable to find who the car with tinted windows belongs to. Bosch later finds out that it was Detective Renee Ballard.

She asks him to return the case files regarding the Flower Girls serial murder case, which he stole from the LAPD. Bosch denies stealing the 13-year-old cold case files but tells her that he made copies of the files that she can use. However, he agrees to give her the copies only if she gives the new case file to him.

Harry Bosch’s personal connection with The Flower Girls murder case in Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale

When Harry Bosch was an LAPD detective, he encountered the Flower Girls serial murders. It became a serial murder case after three girls from a dating site called Filipino Flowers were killed in the same manner and dumped in the same place.

Bosch was unable to solve the case as he figured someone from the force might be linked to the killers, due to which he failed to gather evidence. The case was personal to him because Bosch’s mother, who was also a pr*stitue in Hollywood, was murdered with no murderer being convicted. The personal tragedy fueled his will to bring justice to the girls in this case.

However, he had to go through several setbacks before being a part of the new case, involving the same serial killer. For instance, Captain Seals asks Ballard to issue a search warrant and search Bosch’s property, but it does not go as planned, as DA Chandler informs Bosch about this new development.

He then refuses to give Ballard the copies of the case files and tells her he can get the new case files from DA Chandler. This prompts Ballard to share the case files with him, and he finds out that it is the same serial killer due to the same MO and the same place used for dumping the dead bodies.

With some help, Ballard and Bosch finally nab the serial killer in Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale

After initial distrust and Ballard putting a tracker in Bosch’s car, Maddie’s help lets Bosch get closer to the identity of the killer.

After he tells Maddie about his mother, she tries to help him by looking at the case files once and notices something. She shares that the LAFD paramedic, named Jeremy McKee, is a recurring name in all of the case files and has been part of both investigations. Maddie remembered McKee, as she had seen him visit the LAPD’s Hollywood precinct several times.

After Bosch asks Mo to do a background check on McKee, they discover that he went to Idaho when Bosch was investigating the case 13 years ago and came back to join his previous job recently. After Bosch relays the information to Ballard, she confesses to holding out crucial information on the case on Seal’s orders: that a DNA sample was acquired from the new victim.

They then try to nab McKee to match his DNA with the one found on the victim, but DA Chandler tells them more evidence would be needed, as McKee is a first responder and finding his DNA on the victim won’t be enough to send him to prison.

With the involvement of Crate and Barrel in the final case of the series, Bosch sends Mo to break into McKee’s house, much to Renee’s displeasure. Mo finds the original copies of the 13-year-old flower girls' case, and after hacking into McKee’s computer, also finds where they could catch him now.

Without wasting any more time, Bosch and Ballard reach the location where McKee was just about to kill another but is saved by the detectives. While McKee tries to flee through the window, Bosch nabs the killer and suppresses his want to kill him due to his promise to Maddie.

The finale of Bosch: Legacy season 3 was a perfect ending, as it seemed Bosch had finally passed the baton to Renee Ballard after they reluctantly worked together to solve one of the most important cases in Bosch’s life.
